A Muslim father ran over and killed his 20-year-old daughter because he was enraged by her failure to obey him and her increasingly Westernised values, a prosecutor has claimed.
Faleh Almaleki allegedly accelerated his Jeep in a car park in Phoenix, Arizona, hitting Noor as well as her boyfriend's mother, before fleeing the scene - and the country.
The mother survived but Noor died after two weeks in a coma.
In a case that has gripped America, the jury will now have to decide whether or not Almaleki, an Iraqi immigrant, should be charged with murder, attempted murder or whether it was an accident, as his defence lawyers contest.
The 50-year-old faces life behind bars if he is convicted of murder.
Prosecutor Laura Reckart told the 16-strong jury that Almaleki was increasingly incensed at his daughter's failure to obey him.
In her opening statement, she told jurors that he believed she had dishonoured the family by becoming too Westernised.

Our news media would rather not publish these stories.
He should have waited a few years. It’s only a matter of time before SCOTUS recognizes islamic honor killings as the protected exercise of Freedom of Religion.
I won’t hold my breath.
He’s not guilty. After all, we must celebrate our diversity.
Do I really need the </s> tag?
This is as outrageous as it is sickening.
Meantime,'Welcome to America's Neighborhoods'!
Guilty. Cut his head off.
“... this is the first that I’ve heard of it”.
I haven’t heard a peep about it on the news; however, it was posted on FR. Horrific case! I recall that he deliberately ran the tire over her skull and spine. I will never understand why Muslims come to a country of freedom and opportunity and yet deny that freedom and opportunity to their daughters?! Just a thought.
‘accelerated his Jeep’
He ran down his daughter because she was becoming westernized.
First off, why did he bring his family here in the first place? Secondly, why is he driving a Jeep and not riding a camel?
Just killing the 20 Year Old Daughters that normal Americans refuse to kill.
RE: “Why did he bring his family here...”
Muslims in the West are completely conflicted. They want freedom for themselves, but believe they can deny it to everybody else. It’s perhaps their most fundamental error, and one that westerners should challenge them on over and over again. Islam rejects justice and rejects freedom.
“The 50-year-old faces life behind bars if he is convicted of murder. “
He should be facing the Death Penalty, First Degree murder, and First Degree Attempted Murder. Those should be DEATH PENALTY! There is no debate this man did this, he admits it, only as to whether it was intentional. So if it was, his life is forfeit.
Uh, you don’t want your daughter to have “westernized values,” don’t live in the West!
His story is entirely believable.
If I accidentally ran over my daughter, I too would immediately flee the scene and the country.
And we all know that the expected behavior after you accidentally run over your wife and daughter with your Jeep is to flee the country.
Yeah, that's what any normal person would do...
I agree with you 100%.
I recently read that Islam commands that adherents have a moral obligation to lie to all Christians. Any truth to that statement?
Aren’t we being presumptuous here? Maybe in his culture this is an example of love. He saved her from that hated “western civilization” thing. mooslim credo: I love you. I will kill you. Boom! Slash! Does anyone doubt? At a minimum he should be banned from being a parking valet. Have some sensitivity.
There must be a place set aside in Heaven for the soul of that poor child.
She tried and failed to escape the murderous clutches of those Islamic bloody savages who dare call themselves superior beings.
God grant her eternal rest.
