North Carolina, Michigan State close to aircraft carrier game

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina and Michigan State are closing in on a deal to play a basketball game on an aircraft carrier next season.

Tar Heels coach Roy Williams said on his radio show Monday night that the teams hope to play on Veteran's Day in San Diego on a carrier.

Larry Gallo, a senior associate athletic director at UNC, said Tuesday that a contract isn't in place yet.

"We feel as though all systems are go, we're just trying to finalize" details, Gallo said. "But until you have a contract, a deal hasn't been consumated."

Many Tar Heel fans and alums — of which I am one — have been heard to exclaim, these last couple of years, when a 3-point shot clangs off the rim, as frequently occurs, that our guards can’t even throw the ball into the ocean.

I guess we’ll find out next year.
