Et Tu, Andrea? Even Mitchell Mocks SOTU
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 01/26/2011 6:05:43 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

How can a Dem president tell that his SOTU was a for-real floperewski? When even Andrea Mitchell pans it. Yet that's precisely what NBC's chief foreign affairs correspondent did on Morning Joe today.

What was particularly unkind about Andrea's cut was that she criticized both the form and the substance of the speech. After observing that Pres. Obama's oratory lacked "energy" and "passion," Mitchell opined that "it doesn't add up. The dollars and cents don't add up." Ouch.

Before Andrea's assessment, the rest of the panel, with the notable exception of Howard Dean who managed to defend the speech, took turns lampooning it, with Joe Scarborough contributing a particularly scathing basketball analogy.

You know how an old loved one with Alzheimer’s will, at times, have a moment of sterling clarity of mind?

This must be what happened to Andrea.

Look, for all the so-called critique of Obama’s show last night, the media are still madly in love with him and his agenda. They will never EVER wander or stray from their lover.

They may pout, be snide, turn a cold shoulder for a day or two, but LEAVE him? Not a chance. Not a chance in hell.

There’s no rational reason for this speech to be received any differently than any other Obama speech. These people are all ankle-biters.

The real reason they don’t like it was because it didn’t pass the liberal agenda smell test. They’re upset he’s trying to appear to move to the center.

He is killing our economy, our jobs, and on his watch, we are losing in Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Eygpt, the whole Middle East has become or is becoming radical Muslim. Actually, that is just what this America destroyer has wanted. Best wake up America, time is running out for our once great nation!!! SOTU address, the worst ever!!! The man is useless and anti-American from head to toe!!!

Obama's oratory lacked "energy" and "passion,"

I refused to watch it last night so can't comment but if she's saying this then can we hope he'll soon be stepping down from exhaustion or some other lame excuse?

I think its pretty humorous that the “find a Democrat buddy” seating system that many in here were so vociferously opposed to here actually helped make the speech MORE of a flop.

Because Obamas supporters were spread out as opposed to concentrated, the energy on his side was significantly diminished. The Republicans accidentally stumbled upon a pretty good tactic (at least for this speech)

And to top it off, while obie has been supported by TelePrompTer now for over two years, yet he still does not know how to use it. His tennis-match Timmeh style is annoying. How about trying to look directly into the camera for just a single second, obie?

Obama revealed his strategy.....sit back and do nothing, letting Congress take the lead.

Yes, it is not a new strategy for him, but he is just burning time until 2012.

If the budget and economy get better, Obama can take credit and get re-elected.

If the budget and economy get worse, Obama can run against the Republican Congress. The media will mask the Democrat Senate.

Let’s face it. You can put lipstick on a pig and it is still a pig. I am not just describing Andrea Mitchell, but Obama’s speech. What could Obama say that could hide the obvious reality? High unemploymentm huge deficits, an unpopular healthcare bill, and getting creamed in the mid-terms have reduced him in stature and exposed the fact that his policies haven’t work. Instead, they have made things worse. He has no solutions.
