Muslim cleric arrested trying to cross border in trunk of BMW

SAN DIEGO -- U.S. border authorities have arrested a controversial Muslim cleric who was deported from Canada to Tunisia three years ago and was caught earlier this month trying to sneak into California inside the trunk of a BMW, according to court documents. Said Jaziri, the former Imam of a Muslim congregation in Montreal, was hidden inside a car driven by a San Diego-area man who was pulled over by U.S. Border Patrol agents...east of San Diego. Jaziri allegedly paid a Tijuana-based smuggling group $5,000 to get him across the border...saying he wanted to be taken to a "safe place anywhere in the U.S." The arrest marks the unexpected resurfacing of the 43-year-old cleric, whose protracted legal battle to avoid deportation drew headlines in Canada. A Tunisian...Jaziri was deported for failing to disclose a criminal conviction in France while applying for refugee status...

Jaziri is being held as a material witness in the criminal case against the BMW’s driver, Kenneth Robert Lawler, who has been charged with immigrant smuggling...His bond has been set at $25,000.

According to the court documents, a Mexican foot guide led Jaziri and a Mexican immigrant over the fence near Tecate and he trekked overnight through the rugged back country, to a road where drivers frequently pick up immigrants for smuggling runs into San Diego....

Border Patrol agents, alerted by firefighters who saw the immigrants get in the trunk, pulled the car over near the Golden Acorn Casino, about 50 miles east of San Diego. He told agents that his journey to the border had been a long one. He took a flight from Africa to Europe, then to Central America and Chetumal, Mexico, on the Mexico-Belize border, where he took a bus to Tijuana.

Need to have a word with the Mexicans about Chetumal. So they caught this one. Wonder how many more terrorists have gotten in this way.

Not too encouraging. $5000.00 sounds awfully cheap to me. When the price is low, that means it’s easy.

He’s probably one of many. If the coyotes hadn’t been sloppy about being observed loading him in the trunk, he would have been home free.

Check out the name of the driver: Kenneth Robert Lawler.

I'm guessing he's not a tea partier or a Mexican.

“Kenneth Robert Lawler” (the smuggler) - yes, that’s a real Mexican name. This is a much bigger crime problem than just Mexico.

But that aside, I wonder what this “cleric” was planning on doing here? The Canadians let just about any foaming-at-the-mouth Muslim do whatever he wants, and in fact even protect him when people like Mark Steyn complain and get tried for “hate speech” because they oppose the imam’s true hate speech, so he must have been really bad for them to kick him out. Lying on his application must have been just the excuse.

I wonder if there is any connection with what’s going on in Tunisia right now? In any case, I’m glad they caught him. I was only a little surprised that they don’t open every trunk on every car that crosses the border. I thought they used to do so, but maybe it’s not PC to do that anymore.

That may have been (partly) true in the past, but since Stephen Harper's election in 2006 there has been a HUGE improvement.

AG Eric Holder will probably file Federal charges against the
Border Patrol agents for violating the muslim's civil rights.

It is from the Boston Herald via the LA Times. So, is the San Diego paper circling the drain, or what?

connected?

The city of Temecula, CA allowed the building of a mosque early Wednesday.

The vote followed months of angry debate which included protests and letter-writing campaigns from opponents of the Islamic Center of Temecula.

Supporters of the projects rallied and cited the contributions made by American Muslims. The city council voted 4-0 to approve the project at a meeting which lasted nine hours.

“I’m afraid our freedoms are at stake with this kind of a neighbor,” resident Connie Power wrote prior to the hearing...

“Check out the name of the driver: Kenneth Robert Lawler.”

Here is a theory. Muslim crosses border and makes his way towards the casino. Muslim speaks good Enlgish and offers enough money to a dumb ass for a ride past the border patrol check point on I-8 and into San Diego. About 15 years I was in Tecate, Mexico and a Mexican guy at a taco stand asked me for a ride into the USA. I said no.

Pretty close however not sure it is a drain. North county San Diego (Oceanside and San Marcos) had 2 different school supers when the state said English only in the schools, Oceanside (more conservative) said I will grant exemptions as asked for, San Marcos (way lib) said no exemptions , I will show them that this will not work. End of year San Marcos school District had much higher test scores. Never reported locally, only on the east coast.
