I have numerous friends and even a few members of my family who would be dead today if it was not for government. And it may sound calloused, but I would be okay if they were. Our parents taught us right from wrong. If something is wrong, it is wrong. Period, end of discussion. If a bunch of kids are snorting bath salts, smoking K2, playing the pass out game, or riding their bikes on the interstate, what does it matter? If they were not taught any better, then it is the fault of the parents. If they were and they did it anyway, Darwin is doing his job.

I would rather have 1,000 kids die from snorting bath salts than to ban a legitimate substance because of something they MIGHT do. When we were kids, we used to melt speed bumps in the school parking lot with gasoline. We would melt styrofoam with gasoline and light it in a steel drum to make what we called napalm. Gasoline and styrofoam are still legal, and I would bet a least a dozen kids lost hair or worse from those exploits.

It is all about natural selection, survival of the fittest, etc. Legislating safety is complete garbage. Like a puppy, they will always find a way.

My dad worked in a prison. We had a friend of the family who had a son who was really a mad machine. After a decade of crime he ended up in the max security prison my dad worked in. The friend came over upset one day, asking my dad what she could do to get him out and make his life better? He told her he was where he belonged for the good of everyone and the sooner she lets him take his own responsibility for that, the better off her entire family would be. My mom was so mad at him for saying that!

Years later she confided in my dad that that was the best advice she ever received.
