The Egyptian government ordered all mobile telephone operators to suspend services "in selected areas" of the country, telecommunications company Vodafone said Friday.
In a statement, the company said "under Egyptian legislation, the authorities have the right to issue such an order and we are obliged to comply with it."
Britain-based Vodafone Group PLC is one of the largest mobile phone operator in Egypt, with more than 25 million subscribers. It said Egyptian authorities "will be clarifying the situation in due course."

In some developing nations, the security forces depend upon cellular communications. I wonder if that is true in Egypt.
I started the new year predicting the overthrow of an EU government sometime this year. I stick by that. But what is going down in the Middle East is potentially even more destabilizing. I don't know how Tunisia is going to turn out. But I am not optimistic with Egypt. And Lebanon is really bad news.

That was pretty much understood when Mubarak Jr. skipped the country the other day.... That was the indicator that this was a situation that probably can’t - or won’t - be salvaged....
