What do ‘sporting purposes’ have to do with Second Amendment?
National Examiner ^ | January 28, 2011 | David Codrea

Posted on 01/29/2011 5:31:41 PM PST by Neil E. Wright

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has just released its “Study on the Importability of Certain Shotguns.” Here’s what it’s about:

The purpose of this study is to establish criteria that [ATF] will use to determine the importability of certain shotguns under the provisions of the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA).

Like what?

Under one [category] the Attorney General shall approve applications for importation when the firearms are generally recognized as particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes (the “sporting purposes test”).

And there’s an important catch, defined in previous “studies”:

“[T]he ability to accept a detachable large capacity magazine originally designed and produced for a military assault weapon should be added to the list of disqualifying military configuration features…”

Yeah, but plenty of people use semi-auto firearms recreationally and competitively. No problem, right?

Uh...not exactly:

[T]he scope of “sporting purposes” did not include all lawful activity, but was limited to traditional sports such as hunting, skeet shooting, and trap shooting. This effectively narrowed the universe of firearms considered by each study because a larger number of firearms are “particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to a sporting purpose” if plinking and police or military-style practical shooting competitions are also included as a “sporting purpose.”

Shooting sports have about as much to do with the 2nd Amendment as baseball.

Maybe we can include home invasion protection as part of sporting activities.

Even I am not so jaded as to consider shooting tyrants a sport so the 2nd Amendment is unrelated to sport. It is all about controlling the government and instilling the proper fear in those elected to serve.

aybe we can include home invasion protection as part of sporting activities.

I think the only way to get through to these people is if they were subjected to a home invasion. Or how about one of their daughters being raped and murdered.

Then they could ask themselves why they let rapists and murderers out of jail early to repeat these crimes.

This ain't rocket science folks.

What annoys me most is that ‘pistol grips’ are now regarded by ATF as a ‘sporting feature’, as noted in the document, and I remind everyone that this same part was regarded as a ‘military-style feature’ under the 1989 Bush Import Ban (and remains so under USC 922.r for imported rifles) and the expired 1994 Crime Bill.

The ATF is on crack. No kidding that they have senior field agents running anonymous homosexual ‘glory holes’ in hotel rooms. Deranged and insane.

I suspect the attempt to conjure up a legal precedent with this "sporting" reference, neatly re-framing what the 2nd is about for their purposes.

Watch for this "sporting" label to be picked up by the MSM as a litmus test for "acceptable" guns.

The time may well be drawing nigh.......

Kel-Tec Unveils The New KSG Dual-Tube Pump Shotgun

Ammunition capacity is 14+1 with 2 3/4″ shells.
Overall length of only 26″ with an 18.5″ barrel
Bottom eject

SHOT Show: Kel-Tec KSG Bullpup Shotgun Explained

"Kel-Tec’s KSG is a SHOT Show stopper, with crowds hovering over the bullpup like disaster victims over Red Cross food supplies. OK, maybe not that desperately. But there’s no question that Kel-Tec will sell every one of their 1000-unit initial run of their space-saving man stopper. The company says they’re aiming to produce 5000 units in 2011. With law enforcement types sniffing around, there’s every chance they’ll ramp up from there."

Sporting purpose was introduced by senator Dodd. He copied almost verbatim from the Nazi gun laws. The concept that a gun was only legitimate if used for sporting purposes came from there.

I just named SELF DEFENCE as the newest Olympic sport.
See that takes care of that problem.
And if the Just-us Dept want my sporting firearms, sorry but that and the Second Amendment are just not negotiable

Everyone get it through your skulls, the 2nd Amendment is not about DUCK HUNTING dammit! I have heard these idiots all my former career keep tying the 2nd Amendment with hunting. They know better and so do you.

It’s about defending your and your family’s life (as well as an innocent stranger’s life), nothing less. Go on the offensive, start with local politicians and LEOs, especially Chiefs of Police and Sheriffs (notoriously liberal because they’re politicians FIRST). Not all but a surprising number are.
