As the world watches the chaos in Egypt continue, a leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood, one of the major political groups fighting for power, has now greatly increased tension in the reason.
Muhammad Ghannem told an Iranian news network that if he and the Muslim Brotherhood had his way, the Suez Canal would be closed immediately. This would not only hurt capital coming in for the Mubarak government, but it would have further repercussions, as one-third of the world's oil is transported through the canal. This could increase the price of oil and gas substantially.
Continuing, Ghannem stated that gas flowing from Egypt to Israel should stop immediately, in order to bring about the downfall of the Mubarak regime. Once again, this would hurt the Mubarak regime and would also hurt the Israeli economy in the process.
However, Ghannem's most provocative statements came about war with Israel. Talking about what the Muslim Brotherhood is prepared to do, Ghannem stated that the people should be prepared for war against Israel. This implies that a war with Israel could be inevitable if the group takes substantial power in Egypt.

Obama "not ruling out legitimacy" of Muslim Brotherhood for New Egypt Gov't
Israel has nukes, no?
Hummm. I think they will use them and I don’t blame them.
Quick, President Nobel Peace Prize, go over to Cairo or Alexandria with your teleprompter and give a speech. That will make them see the light.
Someone please ‘splain why the markets are surging?
I think you wandered too far past the ATS website...Hit your back button a few times.
Glen Beck was right = they want war with Israel, the U.S., the "west" and everyone else who is an "INFIDEL" and they want to bring their Islamic "calephite" to the whole area and to the whole world.
Umm, no. 2 - 3 % of the world's oil is transported through the canal.
They live among us and our leader assuredly knows all about them (probably more than we know about him).
American victims of Mideast Terrorist Attacks
Lists from 1970 through 2006 - deaths of Americans on foreign soil by Middle East based terrorists.
Terrorist attacks in the US or against Americans
Does not list Ft. Hood shooting/killing of 13 in November 2009 (No mention of Muslim extremism is mentioned in the government report thereof).
Terrorism? Fort Hood report doesn't mention Islamic extremism
January 20, 2010 House Republicans were keen Wednesday to find out why a report titled Protecting the Force: Lessons from Fort Hood fails to discuss Islamic extremism as a possible motive for Maj. Nidal Hasans attack in November, which killed 13 and wounded 43.
Frustrated by the Department of Defenses description of the Fort Hood rampage as an incident by an alleged perpetrator, several members of the House Armed Services Committee wondered if political correctness is besting common sense as the US tries to understand the nature and strategy of its enemies.
What exactly is going on at the White House? What scenarios are they playing out that makes them comfortable with what is going on there?
A similar uprising in Iran gave us the idiot that pretends to be president there, having his puppet strings pulled by Osama wannabees.
What is the best possible outcome in Egypt, given that the most “moderate” voice of the opposition there is El-Baradei, a known anti-USA personality? Everyone else that is protesting of jockeying for position there is more radical anti-US. The outcome at best is that Egypt ends up like Iran or Libya, unfriendly but still not quite ready to pull triggers to attack Israel.
But the worst outcome is the one that we should be planning for, because if it comes to the worst, then we are in for a whole heap of trouble. The worst case scenario is that Egypt and Tunisia are the first dominoes to fall in the Middle east, surrounding Israel with Islamic militants. All it takes is for on of the fallen dominoes to set foot over border and shoot at Israel, not unlikely given the quote above. That may trigger a full-scale retaliation from Israel, and this time it is not against stone-throwing Palestinian youths. Any kind of snowballing from there and the oil-price is through the roof (12% increase because the Egyptians are marching in the streets right now..where will it go with full-scale war?)
So by ignoring the situation and cheering on the radicalists, Obama and his administration are putting the whole world’s security at risk, including our own national security. Maybe they are planning for the worst case, but I doubt it.
John Sobieski, where are you?
I agree with the first part of your statement, she sold her soul to the devil a long time ago. But she and her husband do have a political ideology, they are Communist-leaning, leftist radicals who hate America's capitalist society nearly as much as Obama does.
Why, they’re morphing into moderates before our very eyes!!

The American people are so asleep, it's depressing. The new is nothing but propaganda now.
...one third of the world’s oil is transported through the canal.
Umm, no. 2 - 3 % of the world’s oil is transported through the canal.
30% didn’t sound right to me either, thanks.
I do not think they are radical in nature and they have a much better understanding of the american populace. They have more respect for industry, capital markets, and are far better at surrounding themselves with better people than Obamma.
Wow! I never thought things could get bad enough that I could say that!

Close the damn thing. In fact, why don’t we mine it to be sure it stays closed?
Egypt needs the revenue more than the West or East Asia needs the Suez. Most bulk commodities don’t pass through Suez anymore anyway.
Egypt has few cards to play, except the Suez, and that hand isn’t worth nearly as much as it was 60 years ago.
The problem is, that is exactly what they want. Think about Afghanistan after the Taliban took over. They reverted to a near "stone age" level society, and were perfectly comfortable with that. This is what the hardcore Jihadist desires.
