Gov. Jerry Brown Compares California to Egypt in State of the State Address

Published February 01, 2011 | FoxNews.com

Newly elected Gov. Jerry Brown on Monday blasted opponents of his plan to reduce California's massive deficit by comparing their opposition to a referendum on proposed tax increases to oppression in Egypt and Tunisia.

"When democratic ideals and calls for the right to vote are stirring the imagination of young people in Egypt and Tunisia and other parts of the world, we in California can't say now is the time to block a vote of the people," the Democrat said in his first State of the State speech since being elected in November to a third term as California's chief executive.

Brown, who previously served two terms as governor beginning in 1975, has proposed a special election in June to let voters choose whether to extend higher vehicle fees and sales and income taxes to help balance a $25 billion deficit, the largest state deficit in the nation. The $12.5 billion in budget cuts would be paired with temporary extension of current taxes and a realignment of government that requires a vote before it could become effective.

So California smells like an open outdoor 3 day old unserviced mardi gra toilet? The mass migration of fellow travelers seeking economic justice, or a county hospital card and a food assistance debit card - whichever comes first, seems to have changed things more than I realized.

Yep. It’s all the rage among the super elite, super wealthy liberals. It’s called survive side economics.

My only memory of California is from the two driving trips from Texas to San Diego and then up the Pacific Coast Highway ending at Disney Land in Anaheim in the early 70’s. I guess I am lucky to have seen it near it’s best although people who were there in the 40’s and 50’s are probably chuckling at that. At any rate, I’ll probably never go back.

Brown was elected governor (the first time) in November, 1974. That photo of him with Hanoi Jane and her now former hubby Tom Heyden was probably taken about 1975 - 1977.

I lived in California back in those days and it was paradise at that point in time. That’s also when it started to go downhill....when Brown was governor. The state’s population was probably about 17 million back then, compared to 37 million now (and God knows how many illegals).

I suppose the good news is that when California finally hits rock bottom, it will have no where left to go but up.

I don’t think it actually makes any sense at all, except that he seems to be calling his opposition tyrants although they aren’t in power. He is insulting all who are trying to get rid of tyrants.
