Joe Manchin takes on President Obama over EPA's coal veto
Politico ^ | 2/3/11 | Pat Reis

West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin is wasting no time attacking the Obama administration’s energy policies.

The senator will use his maiden speech on the Senate floor today to trumpet legislation he is introducing that would prevent the Environmental Protection Agency from revoking Clean Water Act permits that have already been finalized, his aides tell POLITICO.

Manchin was livid in January when EPA pulled the plug on a massive mountaintop-removal coal mine in West Virginia that the George W. Bush administration had signed off on in 2007. The move was the agency’s first-ever retroactive veto of a coal mine permit, and Manchin wants to make sure it’s the last.

The stupids of W.Va. Just lined up and voted this butt head in as a senator.
If it didn’t also affect us all I’d Say they get what they deserve.

Well except it’s all propaganda...

The permits have already been denied even though they were passed, and Cap and Trade in WV already passed, but it’s name wasn’t Cap and Trade.

All propaganda...

So Obama has already canned the one project, and Manchin is going to introduce legislation to keep it from happening again. A lot of good that is going to do the company who's money was wasted (stolen). Sounds like a case of closing the barn door after the horse has run out.

So what is Manchin going to do for the project that Obama hosed? Send Odumbo a "strongly-worded letter"? Yeah, that'll do it, just the ticket.

I didn’t vote for him. And my congressional district actually voted out Alan Mollohan (D) and replaced him with David McKinley (R).

Giving any agency such absolute power will have a chilling effect . . .

Gee Senator, now why in the world does the EPA have such power? Get your party leaders to tell us if you haven't figured it out.

He obviously isn't against the unconstitutional assignment of legislative power to unelected buraeaucrats or he wouldn't be a demorat. The EPA and all of the other agencies have had such power for a long time. His concern is that the EPA could cost him his job. His sudden conversion to semi-sort of-constitutionalism falls flat.

Either convince Obama to change EPA’s policy or lose your job, Joe. Talk is cheap when it is your party costing your state jobs.

West Virginia is a soverign state.
Just ignore the Marxist EPA ruling and go back to work.
West Virginia should pass state legislation requiring state approval of any federal action within its borders.
WV needs to grow a set and stand up to the Obama dictatorship.

So he runs an ad shooting a bullet through the obamacare bill claiming it needs to be killed and then votes against the repeal? Another politician who will say anything to get elected and then do the complete opposite.

His support for Obamacare maybe but not his vote as he was not in the Senate to vote for it. At any rate, it shows the problem that ole Harry is going to have keeping his democrats together. Guys like Manchin are running in red states and have to walk the walk or get shown the door. That is why when I hear Harry and Lil Dick Durbin say there will be no vote on repealing Obamacare I smile.

Like Clinton said at the Byrd funeral, you gotta join the Klan and the Democrat Party to get elected in West Virginia.
