>>This extreme cold isn’t just in the Panhandle or North Texas, where it can happen (but not for this long) most winters. This time, it extends all the way to the Rio Grande and the Gulf of Mexico. The coast is even under a winter storm warning tonight.<<

We have been chipping ice here for three days. I know about ice and snow but I use gas heat. Don't cry.

Gonna get worse next week. Starting late Sunday night an Extended Major Arctic Blast will enter the center of the country starting at Northern Idaho. Eventually almost the entire country will be affected. There will be at least 4 nights of Arctic Blasts

Again?

Have they claimed this is all due to global warming yet?

If it makes any difference as soon as I heard about it I turned down my heat. I’m in southern NM and I still have gas and electric. I can’t believe the sustained cold we have had, I surely don’t remember any time in my life that it has been this cold for this long in NM.

Do not know if the weather forecasters are on top of the situation for next week as of yet. You can see it below on the GPS forecast models. Move your mouse of the row of numbers at the top. The numbers represent future plus hours for forecast. Takes a few for each image to download. Next week looks deadly quite frankly. Gonna lose a lot of livestock. PS - Northern US and Canada located bottom right. The 81 hour forecast (at this posting time) is where the trouble begins. Looks like at least a 4 day extended arctic blast.

Make all the jokes you want, it’s not real funny to those of us who are iced in and to the farmers in the Rio Grande Valley.

Do you always ridicule those in need?

Uh...I thought I throw in some humor by mocking my own state....

Scuse me.

I use gas heat, too.

You do realize that electricity powers the blower that distributes that heat through your house??

Unless you’re referring to space heaters, of course, which do the job quite well.

I’m fine, just fed up with ignorant remarks from people who ought to know better.

dragnet, seriously, I’m sorry.

I just re-read your post and it made my day. Once I finally got it.

I’ve been sick and cold all week, and I totally missed your joke. I thought you were poking fun at us shivering ones.

Mea culpa. I’m firing on half a cylinder today, I admit it. Just too dense to survive. Good thing I’m iced in.

Come visit us when we thaw. This is generally a nice place, and friendlier than I am tonight.

Some of you smart alecks may enjoy making snarky comments, but the situation here in Texas is extremely unusual and it’s not fun.

Good summary of the situation. I live in PA, but keep track of the US energy (professionally) trends. This is a highly unusual situation (hopefully not longterm). At the rate were going we may be sending marcellus gas south through a reengineered transco system some day. Just half kidding.

Just do it like the native Mexicans, Texans. Get a big bare wire, sneak down next to the border at night, and whip it over the nearest Mexican power line to get it for free!

The 4 major hospitals in Dallas are experiencing the rolling blackouts. HOSPITALS. But not Jerry Jone’s JerryWorld. The Super Bowl must have power to get it ready for the big game! Patooie

I know. That makes me angry, too.

Not that it takes much to set me off tonight.

We’re a stone’s throw from JerryWorld, and I’ve been tired of the Super Bowl for months already.

And sick of Jerry Jones since he first set foot in Dallas.
