Newt Gingrich haul far outpaces other 2012 hopefuls
Politico ^ | 02/04/2011 | Kenneth P. Vogel

Newt Gingrich’s political groups raised more than $4.2 million in the last three months of 2010, bringing the former House speaker’s total to $14.5 million for the year – a sum that far eclipses his potential rivals for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

Gingrich, who has increasingly signaled his desire to enter the race to take on President Barack Obama, raised more last year than the three next most prolific fundraisers eying Republican presidential bids combined – former Govs. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts (whose political committees brought in $6.3 million in 2010), Sarah Palin of Alaska ($3.5 million) and Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota ($2.6 million).

Then we're all doomed, because there is not one chance in Hell that he could win either. Just write books, Newt. Better still, repent, get right with God through Jesus, and get your life together. Then write. Maybe.

I will die and burn in Hell before I ever vote for newt.

What a hoser he is.

He betrayed the Republican revolution by allowing himself to be blackmailed by the Clintons when he was cheating on his second wife while banging his admin asst.

Hey Newt, go screw yourself.

“Intellectually, Newt is amongst my favorites. Just too much baggage...”

Yeah, for sure. Newt is the quintessential Washington Insider. We can see that by his hobnobbing with Hillary and Pelosi. Additionally, he recently made a speech in Iowa I think, stating his allegiance to the ethanol program and it's numerous subsides. That did it for me. Besides, he's just too old, need new blood. No more Bob Doles, John McCain's please...

My husband was acquainted with George Wallace. He said that Wallace told him that he knew he’d never win the presidency, but that every time he ran he made a million dollars.

Newt is a top Historian but when he supported Global warming
that was the end for me.

Me too. There is no excuse for that. The evidence isn’t there so it had to be a political move where we give up control of the entire economy for a couple point bump in the polls.

his desire to enter the race to take on President Barack Obama

Won't happen. He would not make it through the primaries.

If, by chance, he did (yeah, McCain pulled a come-from-behind and got the nod), the Media would skewer him and he wouldn't even get as many Electoral votes as McCain got.

Of the current wannabes, he is probably the one the Media/Dems would most like to see getting the nod, because he is the most vunerable, politically.

I will say the most formidable team is Romney/Rubio.

Please tell us that you aren't suffering a reaction from consuming some outdated eggnog from New Year's celebrations. Or, if you are of the Oriental calendar, getting into the libations early. While Rubio may bring some of the base to the voting booth (and his recent choices and pronouncements vis a vis the Tea Pary is winnowing away at that group), Romney is a non-starter in the same way McCain would be if he chose to run again.

Does anybody know what happens to all those millions that politicians amass when running for president-—does it eventually end up in the politicians bank account?

Fantastic, another new world order scoundrel who wants a seat at global table as the spoils are divided.

Too bad honest men who want to put America first are not allowed to run and when they do the media does not give them the light of day

Oy vey. If Romney is the best we can hope for, we are doomed.

Looks as though Newtie will have a comfortable retirement stash. Who in the world would contribute to this retread? He has zero chance at getting the nomination.

Republicans are in the majority in the House only because of TEA Party support. If the GOP comes up with Newt, Mitt, or Pawlenty, the TEA Party will cut its ties and sit out the election. Say “hello” to another 4 years of BO, this time unfettered by the restraints of having to run again.

Well, McCain banked some $20 Million from his 2008 presidential run and used it for his 2010 Senate reelection.

I questioned that at the time. Surely, that was an ethics violation, if not a violation of campaign finance law.

Yeah, the whole point of the $$$$ is to get face time and recognition on as many media outlets as possible and to fund local organizations and hire high-priced political consultants.

Sarah Palin does not need any of that...she shows up at an event, like last night's at the Young America Foundation, and the press shows up too. And she already has a quasi grassroots organization just waiting to go to work for her FOR FREE as soon as she gives the word.

So true. So true. He cost us some big races.

By his actions you can tell he was never in the Service.

Newt is like Bill Clinton (in a lot of ways) He can talk fast, but he really isn’t as smart as he claims to be.

Newt’s only strategy is to run to the front of the parade and pretend it was his idea all along.

I think he’s a “conservative of convenience” and would, in my opinion, be a disaster for America only just short of obamian proportions.

I am trying to be realistic. Romney is not McCain and during the debates in 08 and Romney was the only one who took McCain head on and won, the rest just kissed his butt.

What I wrote is logical.

If you want:

1. Blanket amnesty for illegals
2. Cap n' Tax on steroid
3. Another president screwing interns in the White House

Then, by all means, vote for Gingrich.

Politico loves to shill for any Republican that is a sure loser. Look to hear more about “Mitt RobMe” and “Mike Hucksterby” in the near future.

They won’t have much to say about any real rising stars. For what it’s worth, Herman Cain deserves more than just a casual look. I’m starting to lean Cain/Santorum .

Santorum can “probably” win PA, He’s the “values” guy and Cain is the “economy guy”. No matter what, if you put PA in the R column, its hard to come up with an electoral map that favors the Dems.

just sayin....
