He’s not going to run. He’s retired long ago.

The difference is that nobody likes Newt. Liberals hate him because he impeached Clinton. Conservatives hate him because he bungled Clinton’s impeachment. Every time he kisses up to one group, he offends the other.

I watched Phil Gramm raise a ton of money to run for president in 1996 and where did it get him? Dead in the water in Iowa and New Hampshire. Why? Because nobody wanted him as president.

Same for Newt.

There are reasons to be against Newt. But I don’t these are among them as he’s not for any of them.

I could not care less what he SAYS he is for or against. Fact: he did ads with Pelosi in support of carbon taxes. Fact: He has endorsed "comprehensive immigration reform", which sane people call "amnesty". Ract: He cheated on his wife Marianne while Speaker, getting oral sex from one of this interns in his office.

I got a call the other day from the Gingrich machine trying to raise money.

If you want amnesty, lop sided trade/cheap labor agreements, and a guy who will side with the dems before conservatives, stick with Newt.

I will say the most formidable team is Romney/Rubio.

The same Mitt Romney that gave Massachusetts health care legislation so bad that it resulted in a Republican winning a US Senate seat in that state?

He couldn't even effectively run against Obamacare.

And, what is the point of winning if the guy being elected is a flip-flopping liar with a liberal record?

Politico apparently has decided that Newt Gingrich is the John McCain of 2012 for the GOP. Politico does not pick shit for me, certainly not my former Congressman who egregiously betrayed the trust I put in him with my votes. This is the second Politico article I've seen touting Gingrich. It is not going to work this time.

I am trying to be realistic.

If you were being "realistic," you'd support Mike Huckabee since the generic polls have given him the best chance right now.

The truth is ANY Republican nominee is going to have a good chance of beating Obama. Conservatives don't have to settle for some media-appointed RINO to rid the nation of a man that is total failure.

FR needs to go “Giuliani” on Newt.

This liberal would be an absolute disaster against Obama. Newt has few differences on policy than Obama does.

GOP needs to run a REAL CONSERVATIVE. Liberal Lite is not going to beat Obama

Gingrich can raise all the money he wants. I’m not voting for him - or any other pro-amnesty candidate - under any circumstances.

up until 2005 I think he was for cap n tax. he doesn’t favor that at all now. but then neither does any of the gop establishment. He has never been for blanket amnesty. he has been for “comprehensive immigration reform” but he has been shifting rightward on the meaning of that. my last hearing on that has been that he’s not in favor at all of legalizing illegals. but he’s not going to kick them out.

I’m in favor of kicking out all illegals.

The guy has a pretty new wife. I don’t think its likely that he’s cheat on her. In any case he’s getting old for that stuff...

Give it away to someone who can use it, Newt. You won’t need it because you won’t get the nomination.

My contention would be that anybody who bought into the AGW nonsense is summarily disqualified from the Presidency -- due to soft-headedness. If somebody is capable of making a mistake of that magnitude, they're not ready to be President.

As I recall, McCain-Kennedy was described as "comprehensive immigration reform". And, according to its sponsors, it wasn't "amnesty". We know better. Did Newt?

The womanizing isn't a controlling issue with me. But it's my experience that, once a womanizer, always a womanizer. I wouldn't doubt that Newt's "head could be turned" -- which isn't a real good thing in a President.

In my estimation, Newt certainly has the intellectual firepower and the political drive to be President. But I wonder about his gullibility on the cap & trade issue, his softness on illegal immigration and, more importantly, his management skills.

As the Speaker, he had a marvelous 100 days. Then, everything seemed to turn into a jumble of peanut butter and pork. My understanding is that, as a manager, he wasn't single-minded or focussed enough to maintain a direction. He had a new idea every day...and it superseded the idea that everybody had agreed upon yesterday.

In my view, Newt is an idea guy -- a kitchen cabinet guy, not an executive guy nor a front guy. In this regard, he could be of immense help to the next GOP President -- whoever he or she is.

But I wouldn't want him behind the desk in the Oval Office.
