Right to Carry in Illinois Looks More Promising Than Ever

Illinois --(Ammoland.com)- This week members of the brand new 97th General Assembly will convene in the State Capitol in Springfield.

New legislators will be bringing with them added support for a Right to Carry law and plan to join the ranks of veteran legislators who have long supported Illinois joining the rest of the nation in becoming a “Carry State”.

Also in our favor – the U.S. Supreme Court rulings in Heller vs DC and McDonald vs Chicago, support from the Illinois Sheriff’s Association, 48 states which have Right to Carry concealed laws, Wisconsin which has the Right to Carry openly and soon to have a concealed carry law – leaving Illinois as the last and only state to completely deny the right to carry.

All these factors added to the increase in support by new legislators is very encouraging. IllinoisCarry expects to see major movement in a Right to Carry law this session.

It is our time!!!!!

Right to Carry bills HB148 and SB82 have already been introduced!

Now more than ever we need Illinois gun owners and Second Amendment supporters to get involved in the legislative process.

About:

The IllinoisCarry forum was started in April 2004. The idea was that Illinois needed a central location to communicate ideas and information regarding 2nd Amendment issues in Illinois. There are many organizations in Illinois working to protect our 2nd Amendment Rights. Working with these groups IllinoisCarry has become the central location for information and Action Alerts. IllinoisCarry will not endorse political candidates. We simply provide information so voters can make informed decisions. Our goal is to join the other 48 states that allow their citizens to carry concealed firearms. We encourage you to register on our forum and join the fight for your 2nd Amendment Rights in Illinois. Illinois is in the lowest 5% of the nation in carry laws.

BTW mr. Marktwain, allow me to take a moment and thank you for your constant attention to, and posting of, firearms-oriented threads. You are appreciated.

The right to self-defense preceeds any written documents, including the Constitution, the Magna Carta nad the Rosetta stone. We must protect the rest of our rights with the same tenacity.

48 states which have Right to Carry concealed laws

I can remember the outrage generated from the ‘assault’ weapons ban and the Brady bill in the early 90’s.

People have worked very hard at the local & state levels and have made some form of concealed carry the law of the land in the vast majority of the U.S.

It’s this recent history in State’s response to gun rights that gives me great encouragement on our potential to not only reverse everything that the Obama regime has done..healthcare etc., but to correct the problems inflicted on our country for the past 50 or so years.

Most May issue states, like NJ and MD, HI are no different than Illinois. Cops and security guards on duty can carry and that's it.

I realize people trying to get carry in WI/IL like to use the "48 states can carry" fiction to further the cause, it's just simply not accurate.

'Right to Carry in Illinois Looks More Promising Than Ever'
This is like 1998. I'm having DeJa Vu all over again.

History: In 1997 'we' were only a couple votes short in the IL senate of getting Concealed Carry passed. And GOP Gov Candidate George Ryan 'was supposed' to get these votes if he won and became Governor and it would be like Valhalla.

Well a funny thing happened on the way to the Gov's chair after George Ryan DID win. He wanted a big Spending Bill passed but couldn't get it done without Mayor Daley's 'support' (sock puppet votes). And Daley in return wanted Concealed Carry BURIED. To never see the light of day.

And so it was written (by Daley), and so it was done (by Ryan) and Concealed Carry was sent to the netherworld of Bills where they go to die a sloooow death - 'Committee'. And it was never seen again.

I knew the fix was in before the election when Daley refused to endorse the Pro Gun, Dem Candidate and then said in press conference: "George Ryan is someone I can work with." I knew it was over then and there.

In addition, not only did Ryan KILL 'CC', he passed MORE Gun Control Laws Daley wanted. Turning almost every previous Misdemeanor Firearm Offense into a Felony (even a 1st one) and with mandatory sentencing, Judges having no discretion. So 'Frank the Businessman' caught in a bad 'hood' with a .38 in his belt, is treated the same as Tyrone or Jose who has a 6" thick Rap Sheet.

So I won't be rushing out to buy a Concealed Carry Holster(s) anytime soon.

"May issue" is at least a start, and many "may issue" states have evolved into "shall issue", as can be seen from the map below:

Over the last few decades, right-to-carry has been extended more and more. The current fight is to get Illinois into "shall issue" status, and get at least one "may issue" state into "shall issue" (perhaps NJ).

Ryan is in prison. The Daley era is over, along with his clout. May 16 a new mayor takes office.

Now is the time.

Jefferson said it without fear of being called a “racist”:

“I view great cities as pestilential to the morals, the health, and the liberties of man.”

While watching your map, I wondered -

will this be the order in which the states secede as well?

5*** Most May issue states, like NJ and MD, HI are no different than Illinois. Cops and security guards on duty can carry and that's it. ***

No offense but in Chicago, the Cops are always *On Duty* so they always carry a gun, they have to. In the 'olden days' is was always a .38 and a Uniform Cop would go from his 4"-5" Barrel Duty Weapon, to a snubby. Dicks, Plain Clothes Tactical Cops, and Narcs just used their one snubby. I knew some Suburban LEOs and they too were always *On Duty*, so they always carried too. But those guys carried semi-autos, not Revolvers like in Chicago.

But you're right on Security Guards they can only 'carry' at their work place, not to or from, but only at. Not sure on the IL State Police or all the County PDs. Haven't checked my IL Gun Laws in a while.

The ironic thing about Chicago Cops is that once they retire they lose their 'right to carry' and are then treated just like John Q Citizen. And before McDonald v Chicago they had to get their handgun out of Chicago. That had them REALLY po'd.

I took a lot of crap for telling people to vote for the Dem, Poshard, in that race. “We have to have a Republican!” they cried.

Where’s George Ryan now? Oh that’s right, in Federal prison.

Thanks for nothing IL GOP.

Correct on all counts.

But. Gov Quinn is a rat, is a rat, is a rat. And if Rahm becomes mayor of Chi - fugetaboutit. Chi (and Cook County Pols) will still control the IL legislature. Then we have the demigod, RAT powerhouse, Mike Madigan, Speaker of the Illinois House who rules Springfield like his own little kingdom.

*** Now is the time. ***

Now is the time to not rush out and buy new holsters.

I voted for Poshard.

In every State wide election Ryan ever ran for I NEVER voted for him. I knew he was a crook.

We're saying the same thing. The only folks that can carry are COPS(anytime) and Security Guards(On Duty).

No that's not what I mean. Not to 'give up' just don't start planning a party yet. We've had our hopes up before and all for nothing.

Getting Concealed Carry passed will take a lot of hard work by republicans and pro 2A down state dems to overcome the Big City Rats and their rabid hated (fear) of firearms. Then there's the deals that'll have to be made to get it passed. Like 'regulations' so stiff, Jesus couldn't get a gun permit.

(and with Mike Madigan still in charge, the odds are still against us.)
