Palin's NeoCon Path
New American ^ | February 8, 2011 | Jack Kenny

When John McCain announced his choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate on August 29, 2008, the only foreign policy experience or expertise the Republican vice presidential candidate could point to was her 20 months as Governor of the only state between Canada and Russia.

But the former Governor and potential 2012 presidential candidate has come a long way in the little more than two years since the enormously successful “hockey mom” speech she delivered at the Republican National Convention. In an op-ed piece in USA Today last December 21, Palin sounded like an old foreign policy hand from inside the Washington beltway.

In the article, headlined “Time to Get Tough With Iran,” the leader of the “Mama Grizzlies” warned of the potential danger to Israel, America, and other nations if the Iranian government should develop a nuclear bomb. Existing sanctions are not severe enough, she insisted, since they are not, in her words, capable of “crippling” Iran economically:

Much more can be done, such as banning insurance for shipments to Iran, banning all military sales to Iran, ending all trade credits, banning all financial dealings with Iranian banks, limiting Iran’s access to international capital markets and banking services, closing air space and waters to Iran’s national air and shipping lines, and, especially, ending Iran’s ability to import refined petroleum. These would be truly “crippling” sanctions. They would work if implemented.

But just how are these crippling measures, particularly the closing of air space and waters to Iran’s commerce, to be implemented? With an air and naval blockade? Palin didn’t say.

The term ‘neocon’ is a term used by both libertarians (paleo-conservatives) and the Marxists as well to try and smear real conservatives who support a strong National Defense policy and support our allies, like Israel who the Paulite libertarians and Marxists both despise and want to see America cut off. These two groups (libertarians and Marxists) are tied at the hip in their foreign policy ideology. They appease and give moral support to our enemies, have isolationist tendencies, and are weak on National defense. The Libertarian party was even started to join the anti-American Marxists in their protests during the Viet Nam war.

Gottcha.

I don't know, I guess this is supposed to be a conservative site but honesty, I cannot believe the difficulty people have in keeping their eye on the ball - i.e. the entitlement/regulatory life-threatening toxicity of big government and distinguishing that from a strong (not wasteful) defense and an approx 10% flat tax, not balancing the budget on the back of the American people but cutting administrative departments and Congressional waste.

To me, this is as elementary as reading, writing, and arithmetic.

“I assume Reagan wasn't in your ‘voting lifetime’.”

I was 15 in 1988 so no vote for George HW Bush. 19 in 1992 and I voted for Bush. 23 in 1996 and I voted for Dole. 29 in 2000 and I voted for Bush W. 33 in 2004 and I voted for Bush W. 37 in 2008 and I voted for McCain. I will be 41 in the 2012 election.

So no. Reagan was not in my voting lifetime.

And I repeat...... Sarah Palin is the most conservative potential winning candidate for the Presidency that we have had in my voting lifetime.

I notice that nobody has raised to the challenge to present a more conservative candidate that is electable.

Not holding my breath, but still waiting...............

Cap and trade, amnesty, LOST, Title IX, redistributing “big oil’s” money to Alaskans, DADT, her “choice” in keeping Trig ... She is not the conservative that some think she is.

If you look at the remainder of Padams' list, then each of them are "not conservative" stances.

I suspect he/she might have been trying to say "her making a deal that it was her choice in having trig".

The conservative position is that there is NO CHOICE involved. It's life and taking life without due process of law is murder.

Then again, I could be wrong.

I also think that Palin has shown herself to be 100% pro-life by her words and deeds, so I think it was not her agenda to emphasize that it was "her choice."

I feel let down that she hasn't spoken out against the repeal of DADT within the military.

As for the rest of the list: Cap and trade, amnesty, LOST, Title IX, redistributing “big oil’s” money to Alaskans

I have never heard a hint that she supports cap and trade or illegal amnesty.

I can see an Alaskan wanting ownership of the 200 mile waters surrounding coastal Alaska. They are the best fishing waters in the world now, and they are rich with oil.

I don't see any problem with Alaska selling oil rights to oil companies in exchange for money to the citizens instead of to the state coffers.

I suppose, since she was a hot-shot female basketball player in high school that that's the support for title ix that she means.

Oh, please! First of all, I resent the term, neo-con. It is actually an anti-Jewish slur, but since you insist on using it, I’d like to say that for me, the guys at NRO represent some of the best “neo-conservative” thinking around and they did not in anyway support Sarah Palin. Oh, they might have admired her spunk, but for the most part, they weren’t crazy about her folksy manner and mediocre state school eduction. They also objected to her lack of foreign policy experience.

You see for the “neo-conservatives” foreign policy is of the utmost importance.

“I have never heard a hint that she supports cap and trade or illegal amnesty.”

I don’t know about amnesty, but as is written in the article attached to this thread, she said during a 2008 debate that she supported cap and trade.

Hawk720 = Pissant in drag!

Can't find a decent candidate to support, so the only thing left is to try and tear down...

...My fellow Americans in all 57 states, the time has changed for come. With our country founded more than 20 centuries ago, we have much to celebrate – from the FBI’s 100 days to the reforms that bring greater inefficiencies to our health care system. We know that countries like Europe are willing to stand with us in our fight to halt the rise of privacy, and Israel is a strong friend of Israel’s. And let’s face it, everybody knows that it makes no sense that you send a kid to the emergency room for a treatable illness like asthma and they end up taking up a hospital bed. It costs, when, if you, they just gave, you gave them treatment early, and they got some treatment, and ah, a breathalyzer, or an inhalator. I mean, not a breathalyzer, ah, I don’t know what the term is in Austrian for that… -pissant (alias Mini-me Obama)

According to ancient history, Romulus was the founder of Rome (after murdering his twin brother Remus). And for you to state that you won’t vote for Palin just because you perceive her to be a war mongering “neocon,” which she’s not, then that flies in the face of your namesake.

“...Smart guy, but considers himself a “pragmatic”...”

He is a swing voter but not a typical swing voter. Many swing voters do not even presume to be smart and they make last minute decisions based on “feelings” and emotion.

George Wallace shocked the National Democratic Party Primary in 1972 by winning northern states by winning blue collar Democratic voters. Those still constitute more swing votes than the Yuppies do.

Sarah can win the general election in much the way that “old fuddy duddy” Reagan did....by being likeable.

“Thus shall your enemies do!” Said Remus as he jumped over the wall Romulus was constructing around his city.

“And thus shall they be dealt with!” Said Romulus as he struck his brother dead.

I have suspected that many of Palin’s FReeper fans don’t know that Palin was “discovered” by the neocon crowd.

Hey troll, myself and others were pushing Palin on here MONTHS before any "neocons" (which is typically libertarian code for anyone who isn't an anti-Semite) were talking about her. And I would be happy to prove it.

Think about it- would McCain have reached across the aisle to choose a “true conservative” for VP? We all know he doesn’t reach out in that direction.

In the late summer of 2008 there was a very good chance that McCain was going to win the election IF he had a conservative running mate. He probably didn't want to pick a conservative, but he knew it was his best chance.

So troll, are do you support Myth Romney or MoRon Paul?

Good post, deserves a bump.

There are millions of "Bill"s out there.

Damn near every one would get the zot at FR, but they are all eligible to vote.

History has not been kind to the notion that "Freeper Opinion = American Opinion".

Just ask President Thompson why the Secret Service won't let him in his office......

Reagan signed record deficit budgets, raised taxes (significantly) and granted amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.

Not fair FRiend, look up TEFRA....dems promised to cut two to one in spending vs tax hike dollars.

Reagan agreed (reached across the isle) to amnesty for boarder security in return, he got screwed (surprise) on both deals.

If there is any lesson to be learned it's that you don't cut deals with the devil (dems).
