House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Tuesday that he "should be" considered a member of the Tea Party movement.
Boehner, speaking on a Cincinnati radio affiliate, said he is a "big believer" in what the Tea Party stands for, and is in touch often with leaders of the grassroots, conservative movement.
"I should be," Boehner said on WLW radio when asked if he were a member of the Tea Party.
"I don't know if I actually pay dues, but I'm a big believer in the Tea Party," he added. "I talk to Tea Party activists all over my district and all over the country every day."
The top House Republican isn't a member of the official House Tea Party Caucus founded last year by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.). His office said at the time that, as a personal policy, the Ohio Republican doesn't join any other caucuses other than the GOP Conference.

PROVE IT Boner.
John isn’t perfect but we should welcome him, he’s done some good things this year, he’s spoken out against Obama’s policies. Yes he’s a creature of the beltway but he’s trying, credit where credit is due please. Sorry but I like John Boehner, so sue me.
We'll consider you a "pledge"...get to work!
You know a real Tea Partier when you hear one. I don't hear you, John.
Boehner’s been drinking the DC Kool-Aid and become adicted to the “good ole boys club” — he'd better wise up he's on the endangered species list.
I like him too and believe that he is a true conservative but he needs to get control of his emotions. The crying business is weak and I’m sick of it.
Stop the bloody crying already Johnnyboy , grow a pair and then we’ll see.
Boehner is the one who said the stimulus was “a crap sandwich, but we’re gonna have to eat it.”
now go back to weeping
Well, let’s see...hmmm...what was the first thing John Boehner did when the 2010 freshman class hit DC...
He told them that if they were adults they would have to raise the debt limit.
That was after campaign season promises to cut spending.
I listen to the words, but I look at their actions, too. And if this guy is “Tea Party” than I don’t understand what that means. Not much, probably.
I agree, I don’t want to ever see him cry in publc again.
That's what I told my Congressman when his lackies called for money.
Wrong, Johnny. There are no leaders and there are no dues. It is We the people that are driving the TEA Party. It is We the people who volunteer for long hours and no pay. It is We the people who man the phone banks and poll watch and hand out literature.
Stop thinking of the TEA Party as some club with secret handshakes that are so cool to join. Start thinking of the TEA Party as a revolt brewing. And we’re coming for you!
When I see a few RINOS cutting a trillion or two, shuttering a few Federal Agencies...de-regulating and detaxing industry and Americans...they can come back to us as to how Tea Party they are...until then they can STFU....
I shouldn’t reply to this retch-inducing Hill article from Feb. 8, 2011...
It’s just so sad and senseless the course he chose.
