Sooooo why can’t you guys grow trees?

Short growing season combined with the perpetual wind. A few sheltered spots have some normal looking trees, but they are still stunted. Trees are generally short and wide and tend to look kind of scrappy. Some pretty weird birch trees there too. Forget the trees, the beauty is in the moss-covered lava, waterfalls, expansive views, skies in mesmerizing shades from ice blue to azure to purple dawns, and so forth.
