Sen. Jim Webb won't run for reelection in 2012 (D-VA)
Washington Post ^ | February 9, 2011 | Ben Pershing

Sen. James Webb (D-Va.) has announced that he will not run for reelection in 2012.

Webb's decision, long anticipated by many in Virginia politics, will make his seat more difficult to hold for his party. Ex-Sen. George Allen (R), who lost the seat in 2006 to Webb, is running to win it back, and a handful of other GOP candidates are also running. Some Democrats hope ex-Gov. Tim Kaine will decide to run for the seat, but he has given no indication yet that he is interested.

That was my first thought. Is George Allen permanently damaged goods? And, if not, is he conservative enough for the Tea Party which was instrumental in electing a Republican Governor in VA? Is there another viable option? Would Eric Cantor give up his House leadership role to take on the challenge of a state-wide race?

Who is next?

ND open
VA open
NE Likely Pick up
MT Likely Pick up
MO Toss up

Octogenarians like Akaka, and Lautenberg need to retire.
RINO Lugar should definitely consider retiring.

Bingaman in NM is no spring chicken. Heather can beat him.
Stabenow in Michigan is a Cow.
Casey in PA is an empty suit. Unfortunately, Fraud in Philly will be impossible to overcome in a presidential year.

Will George Allen give it another try ? Or wil “Macaca” be the eternal albatross on his neck?

Oh come on of course he loved that power position with all its perks. My guess the RATS told him to not run so eyebrow could take his place because Webb’s votes have infuriated the state and now the RATs are going to lose this one. Kaine can run as a phony moderate because he does not have unpopular votes to defend.

Webb has voted with dingy Harry down the line on healthcare, stimulus and just about every crackpot bill the RATS have put before us. He is bad news.

We might have a chance to beat Sherrod Brown in OH. It will take a strong candidate with statewide appeal, and somewhat of a “wave” election, especially at the top of the ticket. Doable, but 50-50 at best at this point.

A presidential election year doesn’t look good too demographically speaking.

I think it's very likely that Brown gets beat....75-25 imho. Based on the Kasich win, I think Ohio is ready to move back to the right. If I remember correctly, Brown got elected in the same year as Strickland. The two are sort of tied to the same mood at the time.

George Allen announced on Hannity last week that he was going to run. I think he will win because he has a head start. He has national name recognition and a power house for raising money.

My pick is that Allen will win big.

The opponent will likely be Tim Kaine, with TONS of big Democrat money behind him.

Lotsmore..we'll take Florida...Lingle will run in Hawiaa, and she can beat Akaka..he looks old..

Of the 10 GOP seats that are up..maybe one will be close...Dems will have to spend big $$$ to defend maybe 14 seats..

Fearless prediction...at some point soon you'll read a piece about if, in a perfect storm, the GOP can get a 60 seat majority in the Senate..it's possible

Ping to good news!

Perhaps your gal Jamie can take this seat.

What do you think about her compared to other Conservatives that may enter the race?

WI,MI,OH,PA and FL are in play on the presidential level, so the RNC RNSC should go ahead and pour the big bucks into these historically swing states. Go after their incumbant Rat senators BIG TIME.

I think it will be G. Allen versus our last idiot governor, Tim Kaine.

Will be a tough race but I think the winds are running against RATS here. Kaine is so probama it’s pathetic.
