Keeping the Pledge on Immigration: Royce Announces Plan to Introduce Immigration Reform Legislation
Cong. Royce ^ | Feb. 3, 2011 | Cong. Royce

Posted on 02/09/2011 11:23:02 AM PST by AuntB

Washington, Feb 3 -

Today, Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA) announced his plan to introduce legislation that will address all three areas of immigration reform laid out in the Pledge to America.

"This week I traveled to the US-Mexico Border. I had the opportunity to witness the challenges facing our Customs personnel and the Border Patrol, and I learned first-hand what resources and tools are necessary to improve operational control of the border," said Rep. Ed Royce.

Based on the provisions included in A Pledge to America, Rep. Royce’s legislation will call for establishing operational control of the border, working with state and local officials to enforce immigration laws, and strengthening visa security.

"With increasing violence along the US-Mexico border and recent news reports of terrorists taking advantage of our porous border, I know all too well that border security is national security. Now more than ever we must work to secure our borders," said Royce.

NOTE: The Pledge contains three immigration reform components:

1) Establish Operational Control of the Border We will ensure that the Border Patrol has the tools it needs to establish operational control of the border. For example we will prohibit the Secretaries of the Interior and Agriculture from interfering with Border Patrol enforcement activities on federal lands.

2) Work with State and Local Officials to Enforce Our Immigration Laws The problem of illegal immigration and Mexican drug cartels engaged in an increasingly violent conflict means we need all hands on deck to address this challenge. We will reaffirm the authority of state and local law enforcement to assist in the enforcement of all federal immigration laws.

3) Strengthen Visa Security To stop terrorists like Omar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Christmas Day bomber, we will require the Department of Homeland Security to review all visa applications at high-risk consular posts and prevent aliens from attempting to avoid deportation after having their visas revoked.

Statement by Secretary Janet Napolitano on the Death of Retired CBP Officer David Hillman

Release Date: February 8, 2011

For Immediate Release Office of the Press Secretary Contact: 202-282-8010

"It is with great sadness that I learned yesterday that Mr. David Hillman, a retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officer with more than 30 years of federal service, was killed in a suicide bombing at the Inland Customs Warehouse in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Like many former DHS employees, Mr. Hillman was continuing to serve his country by contributing his vast knowledge and experience, working as a Border Mentor and Advisor in Afghanistan. Mr. Hillman began his career with the U.S Customs Service in Buffalo, New York in 1973. He served in various assignments, including as a Customs Inspector, Supervisor, Program Manager, and, prior to his retirement in 2009, the Port Director at the Halifax International Airport.

The entire DHS family expresses our deepest sympathies to Mr. Hillman’s family and friends, as well as all those affected by this terrible act—including retired CBP personnel Michael Lachowsky, Terry Sherrill, and Vernon Rinus, who were injured in this attack.

We also keep in our thoughts and prayers all of those who put their lives at risk every day, at home and abroad, to defend our country. We honor their service and pray for their continued safety."

I heard this back in 1986 it seems word for word. Fast forward to 2011, still they talk about how to secure the border. I am at the point to believe they have no intention of securing the border. Not when Janet has been telling the whole world how very safe, secure the SW border is, crime is down, cities are safer, crossings are down, drug cartels have been put on notice. As long as she is in charge of DHS, the border will never be secured, as they already have the mindset, it’s secured already .

If I hear one more Border Patrol employee whine, “I feel bad for them. They only come here for a job and ‘a better life’” on Border Wars or Cops and Coyotes, I’m gonna puke!. It’s not the American taxpayer’s job to provide illegal aliens with jobs and ‘a better life’. That’s the Mexican government’s job. The BP employees need to understand that or get another job.

He’s been a Congressman for 7 years and all it took was one trip to the border for him to understand everything about it.

Royce has always been pretty good on border issues.

I sure never hear any of that from any of the Border agents I know.

Hi AuntB You might also like this story ..Mexico angry at US official’s ‘insurgency’ remark ...This is an AP story-I hope I entered of it what is allowed.
The Mexican government condemned comments by a top U.S. Defense Department official characterizing the drug gang violence here as a “form of insurgency.http://www.wfaa.com/news/national/Mexico-angry-at-US-officials-insurgency-remark-115648064.html
Mexico lives in such denial.Everything we see happening is also the same tactics used by terrorists. The only thing they are not doing yet is using, suicide bombers

from your link:

Nearly 35,000 people have been killed.

But the Interior Department said the violence could not be characterized as a rebellion.

“Organized crime is seeking to increase its illegal economic benefits through trafficking of drugs and people, homicide, kidnapping, robbery, extortion and other crimes,” the statement said. “They are not groups that are promoting a political agenda.”

Well, Mexico might not be in ‘rebellion’, but anarchy rules that country and it most certainly effects the ‘political agenda’.

A bit more encouragement...

From: Roy Beck, President, NumbersUSA

MOMENTUM IS BUILDING TO END BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP

11 MORE SIGNERS OF FEDERAL BILL — KEEP UP THE PRESSURE

The Library of Congress announced today that 11 more U.S. Representatives have co-sponsored H.R. 140 to end giving U.S. citizenship to the births of illegal aliens, temporary foreign workers and foreign tourists.

Thanks to all of you in 56 Congressional Districts throughout the country, H.R. 140 now has 56 signers!

All of these signed up yesterday!

Rep Bachus, Spencer (AL-6)
Rep Duncan, Jeff (SC-3)
Rep Forbes, J. Randy (VA-4)
Rep Griffin, Tim (AR-2)
Rep Neugebauer, Randy (TX-19)
Rep Palazzo, Steven M. (MS-4)
Rep Rogers, Mike D. (AL-3)
Rep Royce, Edward R. (CA-40)
Rep Sessions, Pete (TX-32)
Rep Stearns, Cliff (FL-6)
Rep Walberg, Tim (MI-7)

ACTION 1:
If you live in the other 379 Congressional Districts, send another fax urging your U.S. Representative to sign up. Find it here: www.NumbersUSA.com/actionbuffet

We need to get across the 100 mark before winter is over to show the House leadership that this is an issue the American voters really want tackled.

ACTION 2: Several dozens of you have a U.S. Representative who promised during the 2010 campaign to support an end to birthright citizenship — but who have done nothing in the month since H.R. 140 was introduced.

You will find a specialized fax to send if your Congress(wo)man is one of those.

I can tell you that your reminding these Members of their promises has caused quite a few staff people to get their feathers ruffled and complain that NumbersUSA is being too pushy. One staffer said, “What’s the rush, nothing’s going to happen until next fall at the earliest, anyway.”

That staffer attitude is exactly why it is so important for citizens like you to put the pressure on Members — and keep it on.

Members of Congress love to string stuff out and out and out until it is too late to do anything about an issue. Let’s have a House floor vote on birthright citizenship this year. Then, if we don’t win the first time, we will have the roll call to know who our opponents are for sure and work on them for another vote in 2012.

We’re especially finding that a lot of freshmen Members are a little startled to find out that voters in their Districts want action right away. KEEP STARTLING THEM.

YOUR CONTACT WTIH STATE LEGISLATORS IS CRITICAL RIGHT NOW
