Palin: No 'problem' with gay group at CPAC
The Hill ^ | 10 Feb 2011 | Michael O'Brien

Posted on 02/10/2011 6:25:57 AM PST by Notary Sojac

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) said Wednesday evening she has no objection to the participation of gay Republicans at this weekend's gathering of conservatives in Washington.

Palin said she didn't see anything wrong with the participation of GOProud, a group of gay Republicans, at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which runs Thursday through Saturday.

"I don't have a problem with different, diverse groups that are involved in political discourse, and having a convention to talk about what the answers are to their problems that face America," Palin said Wednesday on Fox News when asked about GOProud.

Palin isn't participating in the conference, and she's declined previous invitations, despite CPAC's role as a cattle call for possible Republican presidential candidates.

But other prominent conservatives have said they're skipping the conference. The conservative Heritage Foundation and other socially conservative groups withdrew due to the inclusion of GOProud. And with those groups out, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) followed suit. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) also declined participation, though it's unclear if that decision is linked to GOProud.

Aside from DeMint, though, the other Republicans mulling a run for president are slated to speak or participate at the conference, hoping in part to boost their standing in the closely watched straw poll of attendees.

Palin suggested that conservatives had more important issues to worry about than which groups were attending the conference.

"People are losing their jobs; they're losing homes. We're still engaged in a war," she said. "There are so many life-changing, life-and-death issues out there in front of us. You know, we'd better be concentrating on what is really important here and not going kind of tit-for-tat as people are positioning themselves for 2012."

"Then feel free to boycott CPAC if you disagree wiht what they are doing."

That is exactly what certain groups and individuals are doing. Some others who disagree with CPAC's decision are attending anyway, yet making their disagreement known to the CPAC leadership in hopes of getting them to revers course. There are some social conservative activists from here in Vermont at the conference now, who are raising this issue with some of the leadership. My point is that opposition to CPAC's decision to include certain groups is not a free speech issue.

All this time I thought sodomy was when gays literally said, "From the bottom of my heart, to the heart of your bottom."

Or something like that.

And thankfully I can express my views on FR, because JR allows me to do so.

Has nothing to do with the First Amendment, though, and neither does CPAC or disliking their homo-agenda and Muslim entanglements.

If you like the CPAC homo-agenda and Muslim entanglements, that’s your right.

I’m just waiting to hear some clear statements from her about, for instance, the repeal of DADT.

http://gay.americablog.com/2010/02/sarah-palins-objection-to-dadt-repeal.html

And Palin has been the most surprising, suggesting that the biggest problem she has with the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell is the timing:

PALIN: I don’t think so right now. I’m surprised that the President spent time on that in his State of the Union speech when he spent only about 9 percent of his time in the State of the Union on national security issues. And I say that because there are other things to be worried about right now with the military. I think that kind of on the back burner, is sufficient for now. To put so much time, and effort, and politics into it, unnecessary.

We can better than Palin.

You know, trisham, we know who the left is pretty well. The problem is that we no longer know who the right is. I will laugh at anyone who makes the claim there is a far right. You could fit them in a phone booth.

This thread is depressing. I seems that no one on our side has the courage anymore to fight this.

Fear of standing up trumps everything.

When people supposedly on our side claim they are Constitutional conservatives can’t understand the concept of the right to life, or what is wrong about aligning themselves with the homosexual agenda, we are lost.

I wonder how many others that post here think the same as this poster?

We are the bad guys, intolerant bigots for not seeing how homos are supposed to be elevated to special status.

I am going to renounce my GOP registration and do over as an independent.

I could not agree more. Well said, and I commend you for your courage in speaking out. True conservatives seem to be dwindling in number, or perhaps they're simply growing weary.

And it is depressing.

Good grief. I really like Sarah Palin but why does she say this?!! Life and death issue? Is not abortion a life and death issue? We are aborting our future away.

By the passive acceptance of the militant homosexual agenda, we are destroying the institution of marriage that creates children and our future. Are these not life and death issues, Ms. Palin?

If all it took was Christianity to make a great nation explain to me the dark ages and the failure of the catholic church the UK, France etc...they were after all, all Christian nations where they not? and futher explain to me why the founders thought it was a must to include freedom of religion when forming this nation?

(hint Because they were running from Countries that used Religion as a means for despot rule (i.e Church of england/Vatican))

I say BS also. There is no way you can be 100% behind the homosexual agenda and still be conservative.

but “what this is all about” is does CPAC a private organization have the right to invite whoever they wish? and does the groups of people invited have the right of free speech. which is what gov Palin was addressing and not the homosexual agenda.

I can stand for the right of gays to have free speech without endorsing one item of their agenda.

If all it took was Christianity to make a great nation explain to me the dark ages

The fall Roman Empire was abandonment of basic Judeo-Christian morality and lead to the Dark Ages and chaos. It is largely the same thing occurring in this nation. It was emergence of the church that put the pieces back together.

http://www.gotquestions.org/dark-ages.html

During this time it was the priests and the monks that saved from the ruins of the Roman Empire the treasures of classical literature—along with the Holy Scriptures and patristic writings—and preserved them for the future.

Dark, though, compared to what? The savagery Aztec culture, where strangers were captured and their hearts were ripped out while they were still alive? The cannibalism and backwardness of Indians on this continent? Has any Islamic culture every been anything but backward and totalitarian? Even during the Dark Ages, Western Civilization was superior to the rest of the world.

oh I don't disagree with any of that. but it still doesn't show that chrisitianity alone was the reason for the greatness of the USA. The monks held together civilization. great nations were founded on chistianity. And they all failed. The UK came the closest to success because of the magna charter and the reformation.

But it really was not until American and the separation of religion from government's control with both getting equal play in society that the true wonders occurred.
