WASHINGTON — Whites continued to decline as a share of the American population in 2009, and they now represent less than half of all 3-year-olds, according to a Brookings Institution analysis of census data released Monday.
The country’s young population is more diverse than ever, with whites now in the minority in nursery schools, preschools and kindergartens in eight states — Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas — and the District of Columbia, according to William H. Frey, a demographer at Brookings. That was up from six states in 2000.
“We are on our way to having a majority of minority students in U.S. schools,” Mr. Frey said.
Nationally, whites accounted for 58.8 percent of all school enrollment in 2009, Mr. Frey said, citing the new data, which measured enrollment from preschool to graduate school as of October 2009. That was down from 64.6 percent in 2000, a decline that came with falling birthrates as the white population aged.
Population growth has come instead from Hispanics, blacks and Asians, whose children represent ever larger shares of the school population. Twenty-three percent of children in kindergarten were Hispanic in 2009, up from 18 percent in 2000 and 10 percent in 1989. Hispanics now account for nearly a fifth of all enrollment from nursery school through college, Mr. Frey said.

I live in a suburb, most of the kids are “hispanic”, I wonder how many of their parents are legal?

No, this mind-blowing demographic shift since the 1970s is due almost entirely to our immigration policies both legal and illegal, with the Immigration Act of 1965 the top culprit.

Mixed marriages for demographic purposes uses the minority partner as the race of the child. The part that is half white is never counted. Or so I’m told.

You forgot to add that The tax payer pays for their children. Cut off welfare and other subsides, PLUS END CHAIN EMIGRATION AND THIS MAY REVERSE.

Whites are waiting to start families in their 30’s instead of their early twenties because of desire for financial stability during the “years of the children”
If all your needs come from Uncle Sugar then breed away is the mind set of these loafers.
This doesn't make sense. Instead, it should read that whites ARE a minority, and we should start discussing affirmative action and other ways to help protect this delicate community who is so helpless.

Wiki-In the 2009 American Community Survey, 48.4 million Americans (15.8% of the total population) listed themselves as ethnically Hispanic or Latino American. Of those, 63% (30.4 million) self-identified as racially white.
Here in the Southwest, interracial couples are everywhere. Go to a mall, or a walmart.
There is no longer shame in mixed ethnicity, so fewer children are passed off as racially pure.
Don't forget co-sponsor Emmanuel Celler of Brookly who championed getting the National Origins criteria dismantle since his tirades against the Immigration Act of 1924 way back in 1923.
And Reagan signed the amnesty freely in 1986. Nobody made him. Both parties have been sellouts on immigration.
Sen. Ted Kennedy’s Immigration Act of 1965 prohibited immigration from European countries in favor of third world country immigrants which tended to vote for Democrats.
White women are too busy to have children. We need third worlders now to help keep us at the bare minimum replacement rate otherwise if they weren’t here we’d have a fertility rate similar to Euro-peon countries.
