WASHINGTON — Whites continued to decline as a share of the American population in 2009, and they now represent less than half of all 3-year-olds, according to a Brookings Institution analysis of census data released Monday.
The country’s young population is more diverse than ever, with whites now in the minority in nursery schools, preschools and kindergartens in eight states — Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas — and the District of Columbia, according to William H. Frey, a demographer at Brookings. That was up from six states in 2000.
“We are on our way to having a majority of minority students in U.S. schools,” Mr. Frey said.
Nationally, whites accounted for 58.8 percent of all school enrollment in 2009, Mr. Frey said, citing the new data, which measured enrollment from preschool to graduate school as of October 2009. That was down from 64.6 percent in 2000, a decline that came with falling birthrates as the white population aged.
Population growth has come instead from Hispanics, blacks and Asians, whose children represent ever larger shares of the school population. Twenty-three percent of children in kindergarten were Hispanic in 2009, up from 18 percent in 2000 and 10 percent in 1989. Hispanics now account for nearly a fifth of all enrollment from nursery school through college, Mr. Frey said.

I just consider her “white” but the Census Bureau classifies her as the invented minority, the Hispanic.
Hispanic is a very loosely defined term, and in my opinion was invented as a way to create a new protected class. In general useage, what most of us refer to as Hispanic is really mestizo (mixed white/Amerindian).
Not really. 45 years ago families did not expect to have more than one car, or a TV in every room. Two car garages were a novelty when I was a kid.

You’re correct. The difficulty with this is that the average legal immigrant costs this nation money, as well, and consumes more than is contributed.
Other than the obvious balkanization and liberalization that is occurring in this nation (which shouldn’t be mitigated), the other difficulty is that there is a very marked performance difference between whites and Asians as one subgroup and Hispanics and blacks in another that is immune to analysis by socioeconomic status or what have you. Even poor, rural schools (which are assuredly white-dominant) located in areas with no community libraries or additional learning facilities per se outperform urban (predominantly minoriy) schools by leaps and bounds on every measureable test cateogory with perhaps the exception of Spanish language proficiency in some districts.
Our nation went from first in the world in educational test taking in the 1960s to 24th today. The biggest shift in our society has unquestionably come via this demographic boom which was enabled by the 1965 immigration act and the hordes of illegal immigrants swarming our borders. I’m sure some liberal professor in some little tower will come up with a million and one little reasons to explain this away, but Occam’s razor will no doubt be sheathed and banned on this discussion—or rebranded as the sword of “racism” and used without abandon. I think it’s become a political reality that this shift is unstoppable, and any attempt to do such will come with massive political penalties. It would literally take the economic meltdown of the entire nation to end it.

But you also have to adjust for debt levels. What was paid for in cash back then which has a payment plan now.
Now I can only speak from my Chicago knowledge, but most of the garages here are over 45 years old and they're all two cars, enter from the alley.
I know guys who worked for Inland Steel or drove for Yellow Freight who made nearly $30,000 a year in 1969. A new Buick for the wife, and a new Chevy pickup for them every four years, paid for with cash.
My family had a small, neighborhood bar that was cashing $200,000 in paychecks on a Friday afternoon out of the safe in the 1970s, and we were far from the only ones doing it.
House paid off in 8 to 9 years tops.
I imagine it was the same way in Detroit, Cleveland and Pittsburgh back then.

Never. Affirmative Action is no longer for "minorities." It's for "diversity." Diversity means "anyone but whites." Therefore, no matter HOW much of a minority whites become, they will never, ever benefit from Affirmative Action.

We always decline to state on any race question (my family comes from American Samoa and my wife is white). We've had the kids called everything, including Hispanic.
