Yahoo ^

A new drilling technique is opening up vast fields of previously out-of-reach oil in the western United States, helping reverse a two-decade decline in domestic production of crude.

We also need to build REFINERIES! No new ones have been built for at least a generation.

If it has been around for decades, why are they suddenly being able to increase production?????

It is being coupled with directional drilling, which allows the well bore to go horizontally through the formation, which significantly increases the amount of the formation that can be fractured, thereby making the well viable.

Perhaps there is more to the technology than you are aware of????? Perhaps????

You ought to spend more time reading FR and less watching Gasland.

Above post made by someone that has no knowlege of oil recovery processes and thinks he is an expert because he read wikipedis ....

Dude, if you are here to spout the typical anti-fracking propaganda, realize that we do have actual experts on this subject here on FR - folks who work in the industry instead of in DC enviro think tanks. Anti-fracking trolls don't fare well here as a result. I believe the proper technical phrase is that they get their a**es handed to them.

The individual states need to push back on the EPA. If states would quit taking candy from the federal government they could tell the feds to go take a hike. Especially if it’s unconstitutional.

Thanks for the support Dirtboy, first became aware of fracking over 30 years ago in NW Penna. SW New York.

Wellsville, Oil City, Warren area.

Thirty years ago, I was studying in Oklahoma to become a petroleum geologist, and fracking was well-established back then. The anti-fracking folks just play on their typical hype and fear while obscuring their underlying agenda - their hatred of the American lifestyle.

It’s time businesses and corporations tell the epa to take a flying leap and do what’s best for Americans and America and not what keeps the epa in business. Get rid of the elected in dc who are doing the epa’s bidding.

It’s time for Americans to overload our elected with OUR wishes instead of the elected kneeling before the Mess-I-UGH and his minions to destroy our entrepreneurs.

My take as well -

The title is incorrect, it should say

New drilling method would open vast oil fields in US,
if energy policy allowed.

Actually, it’s time for the STATES to tell the EPA to take a flying leap,
and welcome any and all businesses within their borders.

Great news, but the better news is the cheap price and huge supply of Natural Gas, as mentioned in the article.

Now is the time to get CNG cars and trucks built and to the market.. We need more than just the CNG powered Honda Civic.

Fill up at your home with no gas tax.

It is the cause de jour among the tight spinchtered females who are convinced their lives will be meaningless unless they make a difference.

Stream monitoring is old and fracking is something new to get upset about. The possibility for endless emails and texts is positively overwhelming. Self esteem growth is possible beyond measure

Has Bambi declared a moratorium on drilling there yet?

Today is a good day to die.

The fields are attracting billions of dollars of investment from foreign oil giants like Royal Dutch Shell, BP and Norway's Statoil, and also from the smaller U.S. drillers who developed the new techniques like Chesapeake, EOG Resources and Occidental Petroleum. Last month China's state-owned oil company CNOOC agreed to pay Chesapeake $570 million for a one-third stake in a drilling project in the Niobrara. This followed a $1 billion deal in October between the two companies on a project in the Eagle Ford.

Why are we allowing foreigners to move in on this and make money and acquire (steal in the case of the ChiComs) our drilling technology?|
Where is the pride?
Americans don't have much these days so why should we expect immigrants to look at America as more than a country of convenience. A place to make a score
If it were up to me only American companies would be in this game. eff globalism

When a country like Nigeria invites foreign oil companies in this is understandable. Because they don't have the oil exploration and engineering abilities that Europeans and American companies do.

“hydraulic fracturing has been used for over 60 years in more than one million wells.”

I started working in the oil industry nearly 60 years ago, and we were fracturing then.

I get the impression that the gummit has just discovered that tight wells get fractured.
