National Security: The failure of a fast-track extension of three key Patriot Act amendments does not spell their demise. It may be time to appreciate how successful they've been and how necessary they are.
Tuesday's 277-148 House vote to extend three key provisions of the Patriot Act fell just shy of the two-thirds necessary for passage under suspension of the rules. While not a final defeat, it is an embarrassment for Republican leaders who thought it was a slam dunk.
Twenty-six Republicans joined 122 Democrats in opposing the renewal of provisions that have helped prevent a successful terrorist act on American soil since Sept. 11, 2001. Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, has said the provisions will be brought up again next week under regular rules, which require only a simple majority.
Section 208 of the Patriot Act allows the use of so-called roving surveillance, which involves the tracking and monitoring of terrorist targets as they move from cell phone to cell phone. This has been used routinely in criminal investigations since the mid-1980s. Such surveillance is undertaken only after authorization by a special court established under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

I don’t think it’s necessarily RINO’s. I would probably vote to authorize. But the thought of Eric Holder having that kind of power gives me the creeps. It’s not as if he has good intentions for white Americans as AG.
Ping
Oddly enough (snicker) the MSM has not reported this..attempting to promote the idea of discord in the GOP
Sadly, Holder would Mirandize anyone we caught, but we got to catch them first.

Very good point!!!
They’ll get the bill passed next week, and there had better be some “leadership” that sees why it wasn’t a slam dunk like they say they wanted in the first place...
Once again the Republican party leadership is not listening to even the simplest of concepts and promises made...Even though some of the leadership didn’t sign onto the whole “READ THE BILL” movement, they should realize the reason they are probably still there is because of these Freshmen congress-critters...
Maybe some of us should remind them of this fact...
That’s three down. Now to see if they have what it takes to rid us of the REST of this monstrosity that should have died aborning many years ago! It should never have been allowed to see the light of day.
