Soon Illinoisians may be able to carry a concealed gun. State Representative Pat Verschoore said passing a bill to allow concealed carry permits in Illinois may be a long shot. But he said it's your second amendment right to carry a gun.

Verschoore said once Wisconsin's governor signs a similar bill, Illinois will become the last state without some form of a concealed carry law.

"My emails, phone calls, personal contacts, have been running I would say three to one in favor of the concealed carry," said State Representative Pat Verschoore, (IL) D-Milan.

Verschoore said state legislators have failed to pass a law for years, mostly because of Chicago's strict rules on handguns. He said most people committing crimes with guns don't get them legally anyway and the rest of the state shouldn't have to suffer.

Last year, I drove from North Carolina to Chicago to Los Angeles then back to North Carolina — 6000 miles. Illinois and California were the only two states through which I traveled in which I could not carry concealed. Guess which two of those states have the highest crime rates.

um...Illinois doesn’t have an “any” carry law.

Wisc. already had open carry.

It’ll never get thru the Il Senate.

“It’ll never get thru the Il Senate.”

Well, is it because the people don't support shall issue CHL's or is it because their legislators don't respect and abide by the people's wishes?

The Illinois legislature is dominated by Chicago rat politicians. The chance of this passing rat senate, rat house and rat governor are very near zero.

Wisconsin has open carry. Illinois is the last state without any form of carry.

As far as ownership goes, Illinois is better than some others. Illinois doesn't have an approved gun list, a magazine capacity limit, or a .50 caliber ban. As far as carry goes, Illinois is tied for worst.

With King Dick leaving office, who knows, perhaps Illinois will finally enter the 21st century.

I truly wish there was a unique gun statistic in the US, that simply stated “shot while committing an alleged criminal act.” I think that would clarify a huge number of shooting statistics.

Actually, maybe Illinois will enter the 18th century. We’re a couple of hundred years behind the Founder’s thoughts on bearing arms.

You know, one place I’d like to see Federal Constitutional law upheld, such as the Interstate Commerce Clause, and the Full Faith and Credit Clause, is in mandatory reciprocity for each state to honor another State’s CCW license.

As a CCW holder, I should be able to travel to any other state or city and have my license recognized and honored, and my ability to carry a weapon should not be infringed.

No way, no how will Illinois approve concealed carry. Even if the IL Senate approved the bill (doubtful) there is zero chance the IL House would approve it (especially not with that pugnacious punk Mike Madigan in charge), and even less than a zero chance Governor Pat “Quinnochio” Quinn would sign it into law.

The moment you get the feds involved in CCW reciprocity, you will see federal "standards" for granting CCW. I don't want that.

We've gone from most states being non-issue/may-issue to most states being shall-issue, and did it all at the state level. Full reciprocity will happen by the same method, as long as we keep the pressure up.

Unfortunately, you already have Federal standards for handgun purchases through NICS, and Federal standards for obtaining a Federal Firearms License.

If the Supreme Court eventually rules that other states have to grant "full faith and credit" to one state's same sex marriage law, then I should be able to demand that New York give "full faith and credit" to my Michigan CCW permit, and allow me to carry in NYC.

I'd also like to see that a CCW holder in one state could buy a handgun in another.
