Daniels keeping quiet on Ind. immigration bill (Jeb Jr.?)

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels isn't saying how he feels about a proposal moving in the Legislature that would require police officers in the state to enforce federal immigration laws. Click here to find out more!

The sponsor of the bill approved Wednesday by a state Senate committee says it's aimed at having an Arizona-style crackdown on illegal immigration.

Daniels told reporters that he wasn't taking a public stance on the bill, saying its provisions were still in flux.

Supporters of the legislation say it's needed because the federal government has failed to enforce immigration laws and that states are forced to spend millions of dollars on providing health care, education and other services for illegal immigrants.

Daniels — if you want to be President you have to know the public’s mind instinctively.

You’re obviously stalling because you’ve got your pinky up in the air to detect the direction of public opinion.

That is a replay of Mitt Romney’s mistake.

You’re toast.

I really despise people like Daniels and Romney.

There is no way they’re reliable morally. They will go whichever way is politically popular.

Politically popular never equals conservative.

Well, if he’s another amnesty queen, that’ll make about 15 of them considering running.

I live in Indiana.

I don’t like this Gov. and I don’t know why.

Perchance he is faking being a conservative and I can see thru his charade.

I think he tells it like it is and there are folks on both sides who just can’t stand that.

I’ve been saying I believe Daniels is soft on immigration for weeks.

But then, all of them are except Bachmann and Steve King.

In addition to this chink in Daniels’ armor, this morning I learned from The Indianapolis Star that Daniels supports use of eminent domain to build an interstate CO2 line from the Duke Energy plant an southern Indiana. The Indiana Senate rejected this use of eminent domain.

Together with a Daniels veto on the Indiana immigration bill, in spite of a decent conservative track record otherwise, I see warning signs that I find troubling as regards a Daniels presidency.

Daniels could, however, split the Romney or Huckebee vote and leave room for victory for a conservative candidate.

Please elaborate. He has been governor for nearly 8 years - either he has governed as a conservative or he hasn't. My understanding is that he has done a fairly good job of running the state (I live in Ohio).

“Scratch this dumb bastard off the list. “

Well let’s see:
1) He essentially sells off the Indiana Toll Road to foreign interests.
2) He tells the Republican Party to shut up when it comes to discussing social issues
3) He can’t figure out which side to take regarding illegal immigration.

I AGREE!

Maybe because he wants you think (hope) he’s conservative. Then he gets in power and you have to spend all of your time trying to pull him to right, since he never believed in it to start start with. No different than Bush (aka, Harriet Myers, Amnesty). That is VERY TIRING to the base...when you can have someone like Reagan who pretty much knew how to be conservative without any help.

So we have DeMint, Bachmann, and King as the only tough ones on immigration.

I put King in there because he speaks out about it often.

The rest of them do contortions to try and make amnesty sound like something other than amnesty.

Or they think they can get away with just talking about securing the borders.

Folks have been babbling about “securing the border” for decades. Only Hunter (with King’s hearty support, I’ll add) has actually done anything about it. Just so happens both men agree on the rank stupidity of any kind of amnesty as well.

This has already been his record, but we should have known still further with so many of the Beltway Establishment pushing him. The uncharismatic midget for undocumented migrants.

Thats one of the reasons I like these two serious political figures. They actually wanted to deliver what so many conservatives say they want.

Instead they fool themselves with the double talk and fence stradding the others pipe out. You know the outcome of that if you haven’t been bamboozled by personality.

As far as Daniels goes, I really didn’t know where he stood on amnesty. I knew by his actions, or inactions. He never mentions it, but the illegals are crawling all over the place here.
