February 15, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In a desperate attempt to rally pro-abortion forces to head-off proposed defunding and allegations of illegal activity at Planned Parenthood, CEO Cecile Richards sent out an email on February 14 with the subject line “the worst attack – ever.” Richards said that the “anti-choice House leadership is forcing a vote on the most dangerous legislative assault on women’s health in Planned parenthood’s 95-year history.”
“They want to shut down every Planned Parenthood health center in America,” Richards declared.
Richards was referring to the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, a measure introduced by U.S. Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN) on January 7, 2011. The bill, which was just approved by the House Energy and Commerce today, would strip Planned Parenthood, the largest provider of abortions in America, of federal Title X funds.
Title X funds are earmarked for providing “comprehensive family planning” and related services.
Pence stated, “The largest abortion provider in America should not also be the largest recipient of federal funding under Title X.”
Planned Parenthood receives over $360 million a year in federal funding.
Pence said the new legislation would prevent any abortion-providing organization, including Planned Parenthood, from receiving Title X funds. However, the bill would not reduce the total amount of Title X funds and would free more federal monies to groups that do not provide abortion.
In her email, Richards observed, “This attack ... is not an isolated incident. It’s part of a coordinated campaign meant to shut down Planned Parenthood ...”
Along with the proposed defunding legislation, recent revelations made in a series of undercover videos released by the pro-life organization Live Action have shown numerous Planned Parenthood facilities willing to aid and abet sex traffickers by helping them obtain birth control and abortions for their underage “sex workers.”
The videos have brought into question Planned Parenthood’s credibility as a self-professed provider of care for women.
Live Action’s latest videos have also resulted in calls for law enforcement investigations into Planned Parenthood’s activities.
Live Action President Lila Rose said videos of PP clinic staff in New Jersey and Richmond, VA, coaching a purported pimp and his prostitute on how to cover up their child sex trafficking operation is evidence of the endemic problem of Planned Parenthood’s willingness to aid and abet in the sexual exploitation of minors and young women.
“We are sharing the full Richmond footage and transcripts with Virginia law enforcement officials and we are formally asking Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli to conduct a statewide investigation of these heinous practices, just as the New Jersey Attorney General is opening her own investigation into Planned Parenthood’s compliance with the law in her state. Planned Parenthood needs to be held accountable,” Rose said.
On another front, a coalition of many of the country’s most prominent pro-life organizations, united under the name “Expose Planned Parenthood,” held a “vigil for victims of underage sex trafficking” February 14 in front of Planned Parenthood facilities across the country.
The website of the Expose Planned Parenthood coalition says that the vigils focused on three major ideas: that Planned Parenthood is aiding & abetting underage sex trafficking, that it is unsafe for women and girls, and that it should not be receiving tax dollars.
“Enough is enough,” says the coalition. “We must act swiftly and take a public stand against Planned Parenthood’s harmful agenda - raising awareness in the communities where we live, and calling upon Congress to IMMEDIATELY strip the abortion chain of all tax funding.”
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) slammed Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) for its attempt to smear Lila Rose and cover up “its protracted pattern of illicit activities.”
“Out of fear and desperation, Planned Parenthood and its president, Cecile Richards, have unleashed their attack dogs to distract from their unsafe and exploitive practices,” Dannenfelser said in a press release. “Ms. Richards has no concern about the organization’s documented and systemic willingness to aid and abet sex trafficking of minors, which tells us much about Planned Parenthood and their real agenda.”
“At its core, Planned Parenthood and its clinics are not safe for women, for children and for the public at large. American taxpayers should not be funding this organization that engages in potential criminal activity,” Dannenfelser said.

What gives you the “right” to my money, for activities (there’s a laugh) that I do not support, and that are NOT in accordance with the real “right” to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Recent public disclosures of what goes on behind the doors of Planned
Parenthood have tarnished its image and emboldened lawmakers to seriously go
after its taxpayer funding.

Planned Parenthood reacts
Planned Parenthood has been under attack before, but this time is different.
This time, Planned Parenthood understands that its taxpayer funding is
vulnerable. It also knows that, if it loses its taxpayer funding, it is
essentially out of business.
When Medicaid reimbursements are added to its other government grants and
contracts, the majority of Planned Parenthood’s income is from the American
taxpayer. That’s right, over 50% of Planned Parenthood’s income is from us
and, right now, there is a real possibility it may be taken away.
As a result, Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of
America, has released a one minute video desperately asking its supporters
to help.

The Continuing Resolution and Planned Parenthood
The United States government works on a fiscal year that begins on October 1
of one year and goes to September 30 of the following year. The last
Congress did not approve a budget for the current fiscal year, so the
current Congress is actually trying to handle bills for two separate fiscal
years.
For the current fiscal year (October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2011),
Congress is dealing with a Continuing Resolution to keep the government’s
doors open. This has nothing to do with the Obama’s proposed budget (see
next story).
The official designation of the bill is Continuing Resolution 1 (CR 1). As
we are writing this WSR, Congress is actively working on CR 1.
There are several provisions of CR 1 that would affect Planned Parenthood:
* The CR currently eliminates all money to the Title X family planning
program. PP gets over $75 million a year from this program.
* The CR includes the Mexico City Policy - a provision to ensure no
international population planning and population assistance funding is
provided to foreign nongovernmental organizations that promote or perform
elective abortion. This, too, would take millions from Planned Parenthood.
* The CR prohibits funding for UNFPA and deletes a $55 million earmark
for UNFPA. Planned Parenthood works with the UNFPA and, therefore, some of
this money goes indirectly to PP.
In addition, there are a couple of proposed amendments to CR 1 that directly
affect PP:
* Amendment #11 submitted by Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) is the most
devastating amendment from Planned Parenthood’s perspective. It would
prevent any funds made available under the CR from being provided to Planned
Parenthood. The amendment states “None of the funds made available by this
Act may be made available for any purpose to Planned Parenthood Federation
of America, Inc. or any of the following affiliates of Planned Parenthood
Federation of American, Inc.” and lists all Planned Parenthood Affiliates.
This amendment, if included in the bill, would take away all federal
government money from Planned Parenthood until, at least, September 30,
2011.
* Amendment #262 submitted by Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH) would eliminate
all $440 million allocated for international population control, family
planning and reproductive health. Planned Parenthood receives millions of
dollars from these funds through its affiliates in countries all over the
world.
Planned Parenthood supporters in Congress are not only opposing these
amendments, but are introducing amendments to restore funding for Title X
and for other programs
The New Budget and Planned Parenthood
In addition to the Continuing Resolution, Congress is also beginning to deal
with the budget for the United States for the fiscal year beginning October
1, 2011 and continuing through September 30, 2012.
This is the Obama budget that has been in the news this week along with the
statements that the Republicans will be cutting that budget.
This is totally separate from the Continuing Resolution and you can be
assured that many members of Congress will be looking to keep Planned
Parenthood out of that budget also.
We will be bringing you information on this budget as events unfold over the
next few months.

Planned Parenthood is scared (just listen to Cecile’s voice on the video
link above). Now is the time to put pressure on Congress and end its
funding. We have been shown by recent world events that power is in people
speaking out together and in great numbers. We can change America and we can
stop the funding of Planned Parenthood. But, we must all work together and
join our voices for this to happen. PLEASE, do not sit this one out. Tell
you members of Congress we want NO MONEY TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD.

On the morning of Friday, February 18, 2011, the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on an amendment that has been offered by Congressman Mike Pence (R-In.), which would deny all federal funds, through September 30, for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc., and 102 PPFA affiliates, which are named in the text of the amendment. The House debated the amendment, but did not vote, on February 17.
On February 14, NRLC sent House members a letter urging them to support the Pence Amendment, saying, "PPFA is the nation’s largest abortion provider, reporting 324,008 abortions in 2008. It appears that abortion accounts for roughly one-third of the aggregate income generated by PPFA-affiliated clinics. According to press reports, PPFA has recently mandated that all of its regional affiliates must provide abortions by the end of 2013. Planned Parenthood is about eugenics and money. They need government funding to provide abortions to women and girls on welfare. Any twaddle about “a woman’s right to choose” is revealed as a lie by their protection of sex slave traffickers.
