Hours After Saying Come-Let-Us-Reason-Together, President Obama Issues Veto Threat
ABC News ^ | February 15, 2011 | Jake Tapper

President Obama issued a veto threat Tuesday afternoon against the House GOP “continuing resolution” that would fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year, saying the cuts in the bill would “undermine our ability to out-educate, out-build, and out-innovate the rest of the world” as well as undermine “core government functions and investments key to economic growth and job creation, and would reduce funding for the Department of Defense to a level that would leave the Department without the resources and flexibility needed to meet vital military requirements.”

Democrats in Congress criticize the GOP cuts, which they say would kick more than 200,000 children out of Head Start, cut $800 per student in the maximum Pell Grant award, eliminate $1.4 billion in funding for science and energy research, and cut $2.5 billion for high-speed rail projects, among other changes.

The Republicans really need to send him a balanced budget. No deficit. Not a penny.

They should hope he will veto it. Let the government go into shut-down.

We’ve been here before. They don’t actually shut down the whole government, only the parts that are not essential. For those paying attention, this is precisely the kind of political theater we need. It will make the point better than we ever could, that most of what the federal government does we could easily live without and we’d never miss it.

About the only hope we have to ever get control of our budget is to eliminate whole departments of the government, either breaking them up and passing them to the states, or privatizing them, or simply closing them down altogether. We could reduce the number of cabinet-level departments to half a dozen and everything the government is supposed to do would be covered just fine. The rest can go.

Note to Odumbass: we are are not out-educating the rest of the world. We are not out-building the rest of the world. We are dangerously close to no longer being the innovator for the world.

These are the results of 50 years of incremental socialism.

If he vetoes it HE is standing in the way of a budget being passed.

He can then be tarred with sole responsibility for the mess!!

Out-spend is not the same as "out-educate, out-build, and out-innovate".
It is in fact the opposite.
Just take the heavy gov't foot off the brake and let the economic engine do its job.

listening to Rush, about the budget. He thinks there is another agenda and reason for all the spending. There is no way to pay it back. It has not created jobs.

Two years plus into his administration, I wonder if the President has found the keys to the executive bathroom yet?

if he vetoes it, HE shuts down the government

The Feds cannot operate without either the Appropriations bills (Dems were too afraid to finish their Constitutional duty and pass) or a Continuing Resolution which keeps spending at the current last year level and NO new starts. Hey GOP grow a pair - this will be your best opportunity ever.

No. I think he must be holding it, because he is really full of it.

Here is where the MSM has already stepped in and is saying the Republicans will be to blame for the coming economic disaster. And if they just join in, all will be saved.

We all know that to the MSM and a Democrat, that “Bipartisan” means to agree with and give Democrats everything they want.

HA!

That is nothing. NOTHING.

If they do not TOTALLY pull the money plug on the communists and RINO's and cut about 2/3 of the total spending, this thing will fold in 2-3 years.

After dems and RINO’s pissing on Steve King's attempt to JUST cut bammy-care it is pretty clear there is no intention to do much besides a small slow down from the pubies and the communist dems are full speed ahead. They will stretch it out to 3-5 years by jacking taxes first, cutting Medicare out next and then confiscation of 401k type retirement funds and "means-testing” SS.

After that? The collapse begins, martial control attempted, then, internal war.

On top of that, I am not much of a believer that cutting 2/3 of the spending TOMORROW will stop it. It may be that we are beyond the point of at least partial collapse.

Bummer for the commies, they will be mowed down like fresh green grass.

.

“undermine our ability to out-educate, out-build, and out-innovate the rest of the world”

This language must poll well in focus groups. Obama and his mouthpieces have been using it a lot.

out-build, and out-innovate the rest of the world

What does he think he's going to "build" and "innovate"? New technologies for tax collection and entitlement disbursement?

If he really wanted to out-build and out-innovate the rest of the world, the way to do that is a drastic cut in both cap gains and corporate income taxes.
