Bachmann sidesteps Obama's citizenship issue ["We should take the president at his word"- Bachmann]
CNN ^ | Feb 17 2011 | Alexander Mooney

Rep. Michele Bachmann Thursday noticeably sidestepped the long-standing issue of President Obama's citizenship, saying "it's not for me to state" whether the president is or is not an American citizen.

"That isn't for me to state, that's for the president to state," the Republican congresswoman from Minnesota and Tea Party favorite said on ABC's "Good Morning America" when asked about lingering doubts among some Americans that the president was not born in the United States.

"When the president makes his statements, I think they need to stand for their own," Bachmann also said when asked if she believed the president's own contentions that he was, in fact, born in the United States.

"We should take the president at his word," Bachmann said. Then asked if she'd be willing to flat out state the president is a citizen and Christian, the congresswoman said she was more focused on economic concerns.

The comments come days after House Speaker John Boehner addressed the issue in a way some Democrats thought was not definitive enough.

I’m really pissed at Palin and Bachmann weasling out on this birther issue.

What are they gonna do if and when their states pass Constitutional eligibility requirements directed at Obama showing proof of citizenship?

Join the liberals in condemning it?

It's a trap for any presidential candidate to actively campaign on this subject. The press will jump all over it. Let them focus on the economy and national defense. There are many individuals and groups that can pursue the illegal alien issue in the courts.

She should take the same stand as Sarah. As Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates they shouldn’t delve into this unless they have some incredible lead.

The matter is best handled by the houses, Justice and the states.

You are so right. They are savvy enough to smell a set-up.

There might be a set up, but MB might be setting up Obama. She is emphatic about stating Obama's word has to be good. That is the quote that might come out in a few months when he gets exposed. Has he had his "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" moment yet? I don't recall him stating anything in an emphatic way.

When will someone respond to this challenge properly, and answer that 0bama’s history has more holes than swiss cheese? The bc is just the first document on a long, long list of inaccessible documents.

That is EXACTLY the right response: a question like "Why is our president's past so mysterious? Why don't the media research his long form, his travels, his social security numbers, his draft registration, his college records, his concerted efforts to conceal all of these? They're are all shrouded in such mystery. Why should this be? He's the president. Yet we know less about his past than we do Sarah Palin's."

Sarah is not a sitting US Congressman.

Bachman really blew her answer on this on several levels.

I think if she is somehow going to be on the ticket her answer is the right one, for now.

I think the issue is to be said by the states that are now passing laws that require candidates to prove they qualify to be on the presidential ballot in that state! It is not up to Palin or Bachmann to confirm or deny that Obama is a natural born citizen!

A recent Ulsterman report on the Insider reported a meeting in the WH, presided over by Valerie Jarrett, which reveals why all the MSM are now peddling the the birth and Muslim issue. They are doing so to try and counteract the state initiatives to require Obama to prove up his qualifications to run in 2012. If a candidate says they do not believe he is a NBC, they are going to play the race card against the candidate or any state that requires proof of eligibility. Go back and review the Insiders account. It is very revealing. The response that needs to be made by a candidate to the MSM ought to go something like this. “Listen, Obama has publicly stated he was born in Hawaii. He better be right on that score because I am going to hold him personally accountable for his word being true. Since I have no way of knowing for certain where he was born, I will hold him to his word and if it should turn out not to be true I and the American people are going to be his biggest nightmare.”

Bohener,Palin Rove and now Bachmann. “We should take the president at his word”, is a non starter for 2012.

Wonder just how much of "Obama's word" she's endorsing? So much for my enthusiasm about Michelle Bachman, especially since Obama is not known for keeping his word.
