Time Inc. Chief Executive Jack Griffin Out (Fired for being a strong Catholic?)
NY Times ^ | 2/17/11 | JEREMY W. PETERS

Time Inc.’s chief executive, Jack Griffin, is leaving the company after less than six months on the job — forced out over what company executives said was a widespread sense that his management style was brusque and did not fit the corporate culture there.

-snip-

Mr. Griffin, a Roman Catholic, made some in the company uneasy by referencing his faith in meetings and interactions with subordinates, two company executives said. On at least one occasion, he compared Time Inc. to the Vatican as a way of illustrating its prestige and might, these people said. Mr. Bewkes personally intervened, asking Mr. Griffin to tone down the religious references.

When I first saw this story (different thread) I was going to joke that he must have mentioned voting for a Republican, once, back in the 70s. That's probably a fire-able offense.

Turns out the truth may be quite similar.

In an order that many inside the company felt was an unnecessary use of resources, Mr. Griffin insisted that all Time Inc. magazines — which include Sports Illustrated, People, Entertainment Weekly and Fortune — run mastheads, a listing of the magazine’s staff, that carried his name first. When Time Inc. magazines ran mastheads in the past, they typically listed top editors’ names first.

Sounds like he was an a-hole ego who just happened to be Catholic.

Mr. Griffin’s selection as chief executive of Time Inc., the world’s largest magazine publisher, surprised many in the industry when the appointment was announced in August. Mr. Griffin had been head of the magazine division at Meredith, the Des Moines-based publisher of magazines like Better Homes and Gardens, Family Circle and Ladies Home Journal.

Time could not deal with an executive who actually knew how to make a profit.

He offended the homos and femnist editors at Time Inc by telling them they needed to make money rather than spend it. And so they took him out.

It looks like it is better to keep the environment at this Liberal bastion pure than to have a hieratic embarrassing the cocktail circuit crowd and making this rag profitable. Good luck in the unemployment line Time employees.

He should have stated that he was a black gay pedophile dyslexic handicapped muslim atheist green catholic trapped in a white man’s body.

He was a smart and savvy businessman who was taken out by the homos and feminists who didn’t want to get with the times.

Dontch know that expecting people to show u for work, never mind do any real work, is considered creating a hostile work environment?

I think he was fired for trying to straighten things out. None of the regulars at Time wanted things straightened out. They want to continue doing business as usual—until the whole thing collapses.

I expect many of the homos and femnists at Time who whined about this guy will find themselves working as slave-labor for Arianna Huffington in a year or so.
