The public educational system in the USA has become a cesspool of inferiority and political indoctrination since the days of easy money under the G.I. bill along with vastly expanded social programs which were designed to change the historical landscape of this Nation. The system needs to get back on track to making and keeping this an exceptional Nation. Looking at the interests of the young people today,i.e. games-electronic and sports, the teaching of our history is lacking. Perhaps the 4th of July will bring out more than just fire crackers and music.

LoL a lot! Of course that really depends upon exactly what each state plans on doing to replace em. The Biggest impediment to such creative thinking is the Federal Government’s Department of education’s various bureaucratic rules regarding the money they make us jump thou hoops to reclaim.
One of the main reasons we need that useless and destructive department of the Federal government competently abolished.
I agree we should do away with public schools and instead I think New Mexico should go to a fully voucher system. All existing Public school infrastructure and personnel can either be maintained by the county or local government as locally owned corporations or be sold off to private organizations willing to run and administrate them as a private school.
Just one stipulation thou, no school shall be eledgable to redeem the voucher unless it accepts all students.
Sounds like a good plan. I think we should also make it much easier for parents to homeschool.
In my entire school “career” I recall having ONE teacher, MAYBE 2, that actually did “care” for me. The rest were there for a paycheck and some perhaps to feed their egos.
Okie dokie you two with the signs, we will care about you educators like you care for our children. The people of Wisconsin are about to teach you a big caring lesson in fiscal prudence, not to mention character enrichment, in giving you a chance to show just how much it is “for the children” that you have become educators in the first place:)
They should have realized long ago that there are not enough working people in Wisconsin to pay for their pensions and health benefits as well as endless raises.
Note to the governor: There is enough proof on video to make an example of ANY teacher who encouraged students to join their protest. That behavior is illegal. Fire said teachers.

she's a math teacher and I'd love to have her show me the formula on how her pension/benefits for all her fellow state retirees is sustainable, let alone moral or ethical.
I apologize to any freepers who are teachers.....I come down hard on them....but I had the best teachers for the most part growing up....and I know very good people who are teachers....its just the whole govt complex that I can’t stand.......the public can’t afford it anymore...
Cut the head off’n the snake ... homeschool or go private/parochial if you can....

Too many side programs, administrators, doing unnecessary things SUCKING the money away from what it is intended for.
Apply the money DIRECTLY... and we’ll all see just how much waste there is.........

Got to love union thugs, they miss the irony in their own signs. They care about the children so much that they had to close down the schools due to lack of security. While the teachers are violating the terms of their current contract, they are demanding the taxpayers honor theirs and allow the unions to continue to breach trust.
Looked up Madison teachers’ pay at http://www.jsonline.com/watchdog/. Even without benefits, Madison’s school teachers aren’t making chump change!!

See, here’s the thing. Not only is your comment about the plethora of side programs and high-priced administrators germane and an economic fact, also many more poster comments upthread ring true and pure.
Like comments about how much those teachers “heart” the kids by walking out on them, like the factoids that they are marching not because their salary is getting cut but just small dents in some of their outrageous pensions.
I don’t think the president should be getting involved in state affairs but AT LEAST HE’S STICKING UP FOR HIS SIDE!

They should cartoon up some pics of those loathesome Democrats riding off in the school bus, they should have talking points just as many on this thread have made, hell, just mention that how the hell much can they love these kids if a)they leave the classrooms and b)they close down their schools.
Get a Rand Paul, or okay, maybe they don’t want to go national, get a local Wisconsin pub, out and about and fax them some talking points. Repeat over and over....come on guys....Wisconsin elected you because they want you to do just what you’re doing with these bloated public employees. How about a local pub get on the air waves and mention how much money these greedboats are getting, waaaaay more than your average Wisconsin voter?
The pubs get beat all to hell because the Dems are experts at manipulating the media. Yeah, I know they get short shrift from the media but come on....Fox will have them on, there’s editorials in the WSJ....there’s a way.
Instead the pubs bunker up while the Dems are in your face.
