Well, I was trying to be charitable, to throw a bit of a bone to the other side. However, you are correct.
One thing to consider, though: Did the rise of unions, and the thought among union members that they had a real voice in their futures (which was almost never the case, since the union bosses controlled things pretty much from Day One) have any role in making sure that Communism couldn’t get a beachhead in this country? I think that it had some role, though I’m surely not going to try to estimate it (much less defend unions because of it). Just something to chew on for a while.
That all said, I hope that this thing goes on for a while. No, the kids there won’t be getting classroom time like they should be and it’ll be a big inconvenience for many of their parents, but it is my opinion that this has harmed unions (esp. “public service” unions) and their backers a lot and will, therefore, reduce their influence a lot and serve the country far better in the longer term.
