Throwing in the towel is a “loss”.
Maybe, but then she can always claim that while she agreed to wrestle she did not agree to be groped. I think I would not take that risk and I think this boy is wiser than his years and his contemporaries.
Technically she has until her 19th Birthday to make a decision as to whether or not she was sexually molested or whether she actually gave her consent to allow these guys to grope her. I would think that without a signed and notarized written authorization from the girl giving the opponent specific permission to freely and for whatever reason grab her breasts and crotch, any boy who wrestles with her is a fool.
Well that is like saying “ I agreed to play football but I did not agree to get knocked on my a$$ by some player. It is what it is. It is called grappling for a reason. You walk on the mat and you consent. PERIOD! Plus the fact that she WANTS do do this and win.
There are certain things that happen on the field which are not part of the written consent that you sign when you play football. For instance if you are laying down after being tackled and some guy decides to kick you in the teeth, he can go to jail for aggravated assault and you can sue his ass for battery.
It is called grappling for a reason. You walk on the mat and you consent. PERIOD!
Really? Does it mean that you agree to be sexually molested? What if the guy decides to do a nipple twist to throw his opponent off balance? What if the opponent just decides to throw off his opponent by deliberately doing nothing but crotch grabs and nipple pinches? Is this 14 year old girl consenting to this kind of behavior?
And if that is not appropriate behavior for wrestling, then who is to say it is not just bad sportsmanship but is in fact sexual assault and battery?
The whole idea of minors participating in co-ed wrestling is insane. They can do it on their own time, but not in an educational setting. Any adult who condones this kind of stuff is a fool. There will be lawsuits. Maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow, but soon. Count on it.
The girl surrendered, gave up, abandoned, nullified, rescinded all normal sexual taboos and gender differences when she stepped on the mat. Unless there is a no tit gab rule she can’t complain or prosecute. her crotch is no longer sacred either.
She's 14. Somehow I don't think that you could convince a jury that some 18 year old boy who was accused of deliberately fondling this girl for the purpose of sexual gratification had a license to do so simply because she was stupid and naive enough to put on a wrestling uniform.
Maybe this girl won't sue for this kind of behavior but someday some girl somewhere is going to consider that a deliberate nipple twist and a deliberate crotch grab is not only unsportsmanlike conduct, but sexual assault.
I would not want to be on the receiving end of such a lawsuit or criminal charge.
Any guy who grabs her breast or her crotch is setting themselves up for a lawsuit and possible criminal charge. That is the way the legal system works in this country. I know because I work in it.
The male was 15 (one year older), not 18 (too old for her to consent to contact under Iowa law). And you are def right about the civil side regardless of the boy’s age.
Insanity, as I’ve repeatedly said. The boy did the prudent thing.
In California the age of consent is 18. The fact that we have to discuss whether or not this amounts to a sexual contact sport makes it pretty clear that wrestling is not intended to be a co-ed sport. I have no problem with women getting into sports where they can play hard with the boys, but a sport where sexual contact is inevitable is not a sport that should be co-ed no matter how good the girl is at it.
Although I don't think there are a lot of young teenage boys who would balk at the idea of having some teenage girl grope their private parts, I suspect that if the girl were to do that during a match, it could have a deleterious effect on the young man's performance... on the wrestling mat.
“There will be lawsuits. Maybe not today and maybe not tomorrow, but soon. Count on it.”
Absolutely 100% guaranteed correct. Period.
I said almost the exact same thing up-thread: The we even have to consider statutory rape laws shows how INSANE co-ed wrestling is.

Ahhh.....what a great term
“In California the age of consent is 18.”
Last comment: I thought this was in Iowa. If it was CA, then you are def correct to cite 18.
