AWOL Wisconsin Democrat calls CNN with list of demands
By Mary Katharine Ham - The Daily Caller
Updated: 4:31 PM 02/17/2011

State Senator Mark Miller, a member of the missing band of Wisconsin Democratic lawmakers who fled Madison Thursday to avoid a vote on a budget bill, called into CNN with the group’s list of demands for Republican Gov. Scott Walker.

Miller, a state senator since 2004, would not disclose where he and his colleagues were hiding out, saying only “we are in what we consider a secure location outside the capital. We are not all in one place at this time.”

Miller’s demands focused on the collective bargaining portions of the bill.

“We demand that the provisions that completely eliminate the ability of workers… to negotiate on a fair basis with their employers be removed from the budget repair bill and any other future budget,” Miller said.

He also demanded legislative oversight on changes to the state’s medical programs, which are targeted for changes in the bill. The bill would also require union members to contribute to their health care and pensions.

Miller and 13 other Democrats went missing Thursday morning when a vote on a budget-repair measure was imminent in the Republican-controlled Senate. It would have passed the Senate after getting out of committee on a party-line vote late last night, so Democrats left the building to stall a vote on the measure.

My understanding is that the governor is simply asking for the union members to begin paying for HALF OF THEIR BENEFITS????

Public sector unions should be illegal. How dare they demand the citizens of Wisconsin to continue to pay for ALL OF THEIR BENEFITS!

I’m a little surprised they didn’t demand $50,000 in unmarked bills left in a park somewhere.

Here is what to do.

- Assess a fine against the missing Senators. Make it a condition that the fine be paid in person within 24 hrs.

If the senator shows up to pay the fine detain him or her and take the senator to the house floor — quorum

- File a lien against the Senator’s residence if the senator does not show up. Put the house up for auction as soon as possible. Of course, since the action is questionable, the senator can ask for injuctive relief against the seizure, but only by showing up at a Wisconsin courthouse. At which point, the senator is detained and frog-marched to the senate.

- If the senator does not show up, sell the house, and file a lien against the next piece of property.

How soon do you think it would be before they show up?

Sorry to disappoint but the PUBS don't have the marbles of steel to do it!

All it takes is one man to stay firm, and be a leader: Scott Walker.

This cause is lost and the pubs will cave.

Good Lord. Remind me to position my foxhole far from yours, if there ever is a shooting war!

My way is more direct and simpler: intentionally miscount the quorum, declare that the Senate is open for business, and in the absence of an objection from the floor on the “error”, proceed to record a quorum was present and vote on the bill.

Also, cut off their cell phones if they are owned and paided for by the State.

The fugitive leader said they were not all in the same place so cut their communications.

Cut off their e-mail accounts if paid for by the State.

Surround the places they are staying and deny any food or water from reaching them.

A list of demands via CNN? Silly me, I thought this was America where these things were handled via legislative debate.

MY LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATION IS BEING HELD HOSTAGE BY MY SO-CALLED REPRESENTATIVE’S THIRD WORLD THUG BEHAVIOR!

Could be the Madison Tea Party members are WORKING for a living. They will probably gather on Saturday to help Gov. Walker. Remember most Tea Partyiers have to make a living for themselves and their families, not like the awol democrat WI senators/

“Only think how bad the Democrats will feel when they find out their terrorist tactics no longer work.”

I hope you are right, but I am afraid that their tactics will work, just as they have so many times in the past.

Why don't you get on board and help instead of bad-mouthing. Geez. Either you don't know what is happening or you are just too crabby to be a productive person.

"The hypocrisy of the media is just so overwhelming..."

Indeed. On 9/11, when the POTUS and VPOTUS went to an "undisclosed location" to exercise their responsibilities, the media criticism of their lack of leadership was endless, in spite of the fact that Washington D.C. had been targeted, and nobody had a idea of the depth and extent of the attacks.

Now, when Rat state senators go to an "undisclosed location," for the pettiest of reasons, and to dodge their responsibilities, they are lionized by the MSM.

The Governor should send CNN an ultimatum, also:

Any Legislator who is not at work on Monday will be dismissed, summarily, and an Appointment for the Vacant Seat will be made by the Governor, until the next Regularly Scheduled Election.

Additionally, any Teacher who is not back on the job on Monday, will be TERMINATED. The vacancy will be Posted for the Public to apply, and any Terminated Teacher may re-apply, who's hiring shall be subject to a Review of their past performance, including Attendance issues.
