Cloward Piven Comes Undone
American Thinker ^ | February 18, 2011 | Henry Oliner

I am reluctant to accept conspiracy theories. In 1966 sociologists Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven proposed to overwhelm the political and economic system with welfare recipients forcing the government to guarantee a minimal national income. It has been interpreted as a desire to push a greater degree of socialism, forcing a collapse that would require central government control. It may have been a grand socialist strategy, but that does not necessarily translate into a conspiracy meant to overthrow the capitalist system.

Regardless, it seems that although the system has become clearly overwhelmed with public pensions, unsustainable deficits, and reckless cronyism the result is quite the opposite of what they expected.

The first result of the Democrat's majority and the ensuing reckless legislation was for them to lose the House in an overwhelming defeat. But this only applied the breaks a little so far. The real revolution is at the state level.

Mitch Daniels decertified the state unions in his first days as governor of Indiana. Chris Christie is receiving wide respect for standing up to the various unions in New Jersey and cutting their benefits. And Governor Walker in Wisconsin is standing up to the teachers in his state.

Peggy Noonan in the Wall Street Journal Where the Leaders Are (2/17/11) quoted Chris Christie addressing a convention of firefighters about cuts in pension benefits,

Here's the deal: I understand you're angry, and I understand you're frustrated, and I understand you feel deceived and betrayed. For 20 years, governors have come into this room and lied to you, promised you benefits that they had no way of paying for, making promises they knew they couldn't keep, and just hoping that they wouldn't be the man or women left holding the bag. I understand why you feel angry and betrayed and deceived by those people. Here's what I don't understand. Why are you booing the first guy who came in here and told you the truth?

By recklessly bestowing such overgenerous benefits to so many in the public sector, statists have awoken a vein of leaders that will surely undo the reckless spending of the past decades. Many voters who generally remain disinterested in politics have become fierce advocates, and will likely remain so until some sense of fiscal sanity is restored.

Rather than push us into the statist arms, government's overindulgence has destroyed public support for the very programs Cloward and Piven sought to support.

The voters will have little patience and sympathy for public workers who receive better pay and benefits than private employers can afford. Dick Armey had an axiom that you should not waste time killing someone who is busy committing suicide. Those public employees and their political allies who scream and protest to protect unsustainable benefits in states teetering in bankruptcy are doing just that.

I believe that this Budget submitted by 0bama is a key piece in his plan to unravel this country’s ability to deal with deficit spend - thus inciting chaos not unlike what we see unfolding in Madison WI today.

Then he can go ahead and impose a Socialist (or worse) form of Government.

Because that thing WILL collapse this country, no doubt.

In other words, the Emperor has no clothes. The Marxists are naked before the world and the world, going broke, aren’t happy.

Cloven pitfall.

The greed of these people are mind boggling. But, I had a revelation yesterday. If they are so fired up about keeping their benefits and wages. Raise the state taxes on state workers only, on their property and their wages.

I think this author gets it right. Coward and Piven and the rest of the Left thought if they effed it up enough, America would just bow to their wishes.

But they overlooked one major point. The money has to come from somewhere...and America is broke.

All socialist liberal plans always have the opposite outcome of the plan.

Yep. She’s come undone. She didn’t know what she was headed for, and when we found what she was headed for: it was too late.

ALL of TV and the newsmedia support them. Until the public pulls the plug on Tv then they have a lot more power then we do.

It is well known that the ‘welfare state’ is destroyed when the left overreaches.

Blood...turnip...

Agree the 2012 budget as submitted by PBO is a clear indication that this administration’s plan is to destroy the US economy and to do so requires the displacement of the US$ as the world’s currency.

I believe that was the plan. Ken Timmerman wrote an article in Newsmax, Oct. 2008 showing the Muslims, revolutionaries, funding etc. which Obama knew starting at age 18-25, at least, “Obama had close ties to top Saudi adviser at early age.” Later, David Rockefeller and Zig Brzezinski were his mentors. He was involved with the CFR and the CIa.

The NWO needs America to forfeit its sovereignty, likely by asking UN forces to intercede. Look again at what happened after the Mar. 12, 2008 secret session of Congress. Hillary’s delegates were forced to endorse Obama, illegally.
There was the run on the banks. TARP, stimulus, etc. have put us deeply in debt to collapse our economy.

The problem with Blowhard-Pinhead is that you can play groups off against each other and bust the solidarity.

>>>>The NWO needs America to forfeit its sovereignty, likely by asking UN forces to intercede<<<<

If any so-called leader of America actually did formally invite foreign troops into America (blue helmet or otherwise) for “peace keeping purposes” then they had better be far, far away from this country in some very safe place with protection.

Because they would not be safe in America and we would have an open Civil War on our hands.

Although I can't imagine who the minority opponent in that Civil War would be (militaristically) because the armed forces and the citizens would be with the majority and using force to violently repel an such incursion.

So it would be like a Civil War against the faction of the US who asked for the foreign troops against pretty much everyone else in America. Well maybe the Labor Unions would also support that invitation so there would be that group, but nothing at all like a true set of 2 armed forces having at each other.

Just one very arrogant, stupid person, and his sycophants waiting impatiently for foreign troops to come in and keep them in power.

I'm not saying, by the way, that its not going to happen just that it would be a totally failed effort if some so-called leader of America actually did do such a treasonous thing.

I think that Cloward and Plivin were hoping for the violent overthrow of the capitalist system and government, akin to the Russian revolution. And this is quite possible when you consider that roughly half of the population is not paying any federal income tax, and pretty soon, they're going to be hearing that their gravy-train is going to be coming to an end.

I'm sure that there will be a fair number willing to take to the streets and burn down cities.

Be careful what you wish for. As Rush stated today, they want mob rule? Well, there are a lot more people who idenitfy themselves as conservative than any other group. So these thugs should think twice about unleashing forces they cannot control.

You are right. Such a scenario of inviting UN troops would need to follow some kind of nuclear attack, EMP bomb, dirty bombs in cities, etc. and then let the troops stay until they were firmly entrenched. I don’t think it could be a transparent move by Obama, but a move disguised as something else without approval by anyone.

I think Obama is under tremendous pressure to do something to regain control after the Nov. elections. He is risking everything with interference in Wisconsin, Iowa, etc. and defying contempt of court, because he knows that if we have honest elections in 2012, he is done for.
