found that they had strict policies about sending spam.

I use it too but the concept that people receive e-mails that seem to be personally sent to them only is the concept I was referring to. The big problem is that now with so many people loading up junk like facebook with personal information thinking it is secure is the wolf at the back door.

I have a facebook account with no personal information other than what was absolutely necessary to log in because my mother asked me to. In her early eighties, she can grasp the facebook concept much easier than e-mail for some silly reason. Added to the fact she is in Vegas and I am in Florida, if it makes it easier for her then I can live with it for as long as she is with us. But I still don’t talk about private stuff on it.
