Government Worker Unions: The Long Good-bye [Obama Executive Order 13522]

The "Madison Uprising" is the beginning of the end of the incestuous relationship between government and the unions. That fact has been recognized by the public sector unions and the Democratic Party and is why they have pulled out all the stops and reverted to their 1960's playbook in order to maintain the status quo. However, it is a battle that the unions and the Democratic Party will lose regardless of the immediate outcome in Wisconsin.

The Democratic Party has sold its soul to the public sector unions. In the 2010 mid-term election, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees poured over $87 million dollars into the election. (A new spending record). AFSCME's $87 million was greater than the campaign spending by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce ($75 million) and American Crossroads ($65 million). Other public sector unions also ratcheted up their spending such as SEIU ($44 million) and the National Education Association ($40 million).

The three major public sector unions spent over $171 million in the 2010 election plus an estimated $250 million equivalent value of so-called volunteer activity such as get out the vote efforts, door-to-door campaigning and poll watching.

There is nothing wrong with private people or organizations, including private unions, spending money on political campaigns as institutional sources are disclosed. However, AFSCME, the NEA, the AFT (American Federation of Teachers) or the public union sector of SEIU are government employees.......more

Obama put union bosses in charge
of federal agencies, then exempted them from FOIA

"Executive Order 13522, aka "Creating Labor-Management Forums to Improve Delivery of Government Services." "RedState's Labor Union Report notes, "this EO was signed when the nation was distracted by the Obamacare debate".

"What the EO means, however, is that Obama 'has turned over a significant portion of the Executive Branch of the United States government to union bosses.'"

"This could be the most significant federal policy decision regarding federal labor-management relations since President Kennedy signed the first EO in 1962 granting representatial rights to federal employee unions."

For the Private Sector:

"President’s Budget Strengthens Pensions by Giving PBGC New Premium Authority"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 15, 2011

"WASHINGTON—President Obama's proposal, which for the first time would allow the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation to set its own premiums..."

PBGC Director is Joshua Gotbaum who was named by Obama in November of 2008, "to oversee the new administration's takeover of the Treasury Department as it manages the still-evolving $700 billion financial rescue plan".

Gotbaum, 57, the son of the New York labor leader Victor Gotbaum, worked briefly in the Carter administration. Victor Gotbaum was an American labor leader from 1965 to 1987 who's first union job in the 50's was with the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America [Chicago]. Victor G. later went on to become president of AFSCME District Council 37 (DC37), the largest municipal union in New York City." Once when Victor G. was asked why he backed a mob associate he said: "everyone knows that the presidency of the DC37 office is a meaningless office". One of a High salary and minimal duties.

(tracing the history of names/families still active in the unions is a fascinating one).

This is a fight that needed to happen sooner than later.

Let the battle be joined.

And the head cracking begin.

Madison first... then rinse and repeat until clean.

"Obama put union bosses in charge of federal agencies, then exempted them from FOIA"

"All federal agencies, including EPA, are required to make requested records available unless the records are protected from disclosure by certain FOIA exemptions. Agencies may withhold information according to nine exemptions contained in the statute."

I particularly like exemption #3: “Specifically exempted by other statutes.”

Gee! I wonder just what those other statues could be????????

Well! I’ve always prided myself in my ability to interpret “gobbledygook” regulations but this must win the prize.

As far as I could gather, subsection (3) has now been changed so that anything is covered by it and that our wonderful government has in reality, gutted the FOIA.

So much for the Progressives in office today.
