What needs to happen is Governor Walker needs to call the credit card companies and report the state cards those guys have as stolen.

Or declare that “official business” only happens within Wisconsin, so the state will not pay out of state charges on those cards.

They have debit cards which cannot be used for hotels or food (the cards are coded to refuse such charges.)

They also have State Travel Cards, which are billed to them personally, i.e., they are responsible for paying the charges. The cards are usually issued with a $2000 limit, but they could be higher for elected officials.

In order to get the reimbursement to pay off a travel card, they must fill out a Travel Expense Report, which must be OK’d by a supervisor and must be approved by the Travel Dept as bonafide state travel expenses.

We shall see what happens.

what are the ethical rules regarding loans and borrowing money?

if the union lends them money or they obtain “sweetheart loans” from a credit union, does this have to be reported and would it be an ethics violation?

If they aren't there then why are they paid at all?

I think I mentioned this further up the thread - but there are no defined hours or days for elected officials, hence it is not possible to say they “missed” work and make it stick. Under this same theory, they don’t get sick days either.

And if they claim they were out due to a medical absence then they should have to provide a doctors note as well. /s

Is Wisconsin a full time or part time legislature?

Here in Indiana it’s part time, they have to have a real job for most of the year. It’s a good thing when legislators have to work in the real world part of the time.

The state, governor, or which ever body as required by statute, needs to declare these seats as VACATED by those who pulled this little stunt to shirk their constitutional duty and avoid the vote, and call a special election soon, within weeks, to fill the empty chairs. No salary, no benefits, nothing, and forbidden to run again for any public office. See ya!

I heard they may have state credit cards that can be cut off.

Withold their pay checks, cut off their state credit cards, then monitor the situation closely to see who picks up the tab for this little junket they're on. Follow the money.

I believe it is part-time. Their annual pay is just under $50,000.

Do you know what the salaries and per diems are for these state legislators? Typically it’s not much, but whatever the salaries are will cause the wives some serious concern when they have to pay the bills.

They could cut off their credit cards, their phones, and per deim pay. What I predict they will do is wimp out.

They could be voting on a whole host of things that don’t require the presence of their AWOL buddies.

The fact they haven’t, says an awful lot.

Democrats when in the majority, do everything in their power to ram through their agenda, when they lose power they always want a dialogue, to find common ground. Sad thing is it seems to work every time.
