This scenario has been mentioned numerous times by other posters. When faced with budgetary constraints, they don't slash pensions, bennies, and bloated bureaucracies... they cut essential services to “teach” the insolent public a lesson.

You are 100% right on. The retired Barney Fife’s $12,000 a month pension and no co-pay healtcare benefit plan stays in place, they just cut the cops and firemen on the street, now.

Correct. The taxes here are ridiculous. Our Santa Clara County sales tax is 9.25%. Gas prices are getting close to $4 per gallon again, the cost of living in terms of housing costs and energy? Forgettaboutit!!!! There is no where else to go. The city must start living within its means like it’s citizens. Streetlights? hell, those are so dim anyway you can’t even tell they are on half the time. why even have them? I have security lights on my house and headlights as has been mentioned, on my vehicle (latest in technology here in Silicon Valley) :)

And the police usually go right along with being patsies. It looks like they would get tired of being trotted out like that.

“....... they cut essential services to “teach” the insolent public a lesson.”

It’s called the “Firemen First” tactic. So transparent.

Bingo. Isn’t San Jose a Lefty haven anyway? What are they doing with a police department in the first place then? They don’t want to arrest people who are damaged by society. They don’t want people sent to prison. They don’t want murderers executed. They want to do any damned thing they please, and turn the place into the ideal communist paradise.

Let’s give the Lefty dogma a chance to shine for once.

Don’t just lay off a quarter of the police. Lay them all off.

Then the rest of the nation can see what a real “worker’s paradise” looks like.

“they don’t slash pensions, bennies, and bloated bureaucracies”

It is amazing how secure the janitors job at city hall and the litter picker-upper job is at the local park compared to cops and fire fighters.

Need to cut jobs, it is always to cops and not the other 80% of absolutely useless city hall workers. I worked at City Hall in New Orleans and saying that 20% do something is being kind.

Let them.

Let them lay off half the cops and half the firefighters.

When the people are getting robbed and houses are burning down the laid off service personnel can show up and pass out phone numbers and stats of who in their local “government” is still employed.

When the locals see fat cat paper pushers, three levels of “management” for teachers and city workers that sleep in their trucks going about their day to day still collecting paychecks when the 349 police officers and 145 firefighters are in the unemployment lines perhaps the locals will get a clue on how to VOTE.

Till then, let `em burn.

.

When faced with budgetary constraints, the govt PTB don't slash monstrous govt pensions, bennies, and bloated govt bureaucracies... they cut essential services to “teach” the insolent public a lesson.

Amen. That nails it but good.

From all we've read about unions, I conclude they have set up a separate, surreptitious govt that controls and sucks up monies from those who are not in the union---AKA Taxpayers.

All of these unions operate against the principles of democracy to the detriment of our republic.

Unions are truly the enemy within.
