Yemen, a Key US Ally May Fall as Al-Qaeda Urges Revolt

An al-Qaeda offshoot is encouraging revolt in Yemen. The key U.S. ally faces new threats from two leading tribal groups, who join protesters one day after at least five people – and perhaps 11 – were killed in clashes on Friday.

Amnesty International stated that 11 people died, bringing the total death toll to 27 since anti-government demonstrations began to demand the resignation of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, whose soldiers reportedly opened gunfire on protesters Friday night.

The Arabian Peninsula al-Qaeda group, an offshoot of the Yemen-based terrorist network, produced and posted an audio tape on Saturday, urging revolutions. The speaker was Ibrahim al-Rubeish, a former detainee at the Guantanamo Bay prisoner facility run by the United States, according to the SITE Intel organization, which monitors terrorist websites.

I’ve never heard Yemen described as a ‘key US ally’. Have I just missed it?

I’m so glad President Obama has reduced the deficit, tamed inflation, brought back US jobs, increased domestic oil production (reducing our dependence on foreign sources), stuck it to Wall Street, ensured the stability of African countries, and, of course, finally and most importantly, brought peace to the Middle East.

Jimmy Carter, our last anti-semitic president, lost Iran. Haj Baraq Hussein Obamadinejad is going to lose the entire Middle East. He is following the orders of his master, former Nazi George Soros, who wants to see America and Israel destroyed.

Is it time to talk about impeachment yet?

Haj Baraq Hussein Obamadinejad

One only gets the title Haj after performing the Haj (pilgrimage to Mecca). I don't know of any evidence that the acting President has done this.

Since when did Yemen become a “key U.S. ally?” News to me.

Yemen, a country where half the government is staunchly pro al-Qa'ida, and the other half grudgingly takes U.S. dollars to pretend to fight al-Qa'ida, may fall as al-Qa'ida urges revolt.

With friends like Yemen...

Precisely. Bush said it best: “You’re either with us or against us.” Most Arab countries decided to do both, basically. They’re not genuinely allies. I won’t mind one bit of some tyrants get thrown out of power, as long as the people who replace them aren’t worse.

There have have been a bunch of news stories about how the current leader of Yemen has allowed us to run anti-terrorist operations there.
