Walker: It Only Takes One Democrat Doing His Job to Help Wisconsin
Published February 27, 2011
FoxNews.com

It only takes one state senator to stand up and do his job to balance the budget and avoid a $165 million loss in savings to the state, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said Sunday, challenging any of the 14 Democratic senators who fled the state more than a week ago to return to vote on a budget.

Democrats "need to come back and do what they were elected to do. They don't have to vote for it, they don't have to support it," Walker said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Walker is trying to close a $3.6 billion budget gap in his state for the coming two years in part by cutting $1 billion to local governments. That means cutting health benefits and pensions to the state's unionized workers.

But while state worker unions have agreed to increase their contributions to their pensions and health benefits to 5 percent and 12.8 percent, respectively, Walker said the one-time fix won't do much good if big labor can just resort to collective bargaining in the next budget and drive up state expenses again.

"We want to be unique in Wisconsin to give those local government the tools beyond the 5 and 12 percent," he said.

Saying defecting lawmakers must make hard choices, even if it won't turn out their way, Walker said without a budget, Wisconsin's debt will increase and state workers will lose their jobs.

"I would go to almost any ends to avoid that and my hope is at least one of those 14 senators would feel the same way," he said.

Please just add collective bargaining and everything else you want to a regular bill where you don’t need even 1 Dem present.

Payday is Tuesday. I’m thinking that one of the Rats will be needing the money, and rather than let him go back alone, they will all come back.

If an AWOL 'Rat comes back, he will be torn to shreds.

And not by any Republicans or TEA Partiers.

If one rat does come back, you’ll find that same rat dead of four or more bullet holes in the head. Self-inflicted, of course.

Don’t you think the unions will give them whatever they need under the table to stay away?

It is a dilemma...either you need that paycheck to feed your family OR you become the national target of more hate from the “tolerant” ones for a long time.

I only hope these “paychecks” are being docked for the time not doing their jobs.

This si the last roll of the dice for the Dems/union. They're all in..but they can't win...they've already lost..just can't admit it to themselves..

Look..Once you eliminate CB and the dues check-off..I suspect that within 3-5 years..you'd see dues-paying membership decline by 50%..and as for new hires..at the lowest salaries..no way they're gonna join and pay $700-1000 per year in dues..

And once that happens, and the cash river into union HQ abates..how many of those high paid union positions and staffers will ahve jobs and bennies..

I wish someone could dig out and publish the names and salaries and benefit packages of the 15 or so highes paid Wisconsis union employees...I think it would be interesting..

I’d say that’s a big risk, but anything is possible.

It would seem to be a case of quid pro quo if unions or other non-family sources provide any financial support to buy their absence.

Why in the world don’t people understand that all Gov.Walker’s bill does is end the mandate for them to join the union? They aren’t losing anything other than they won’t be allowed to bargain for anything except wages. And, the police and firefighters aren’t even included.

Talk about making mountains out of molehills? God, some really are stupid sheeple.

I truly believe many people only read what they want to hear that and stupidity are the only things I can come up with to answer that.

“Why in the world don’t people understand that all Gov.Walker’s bill does is end the mandate for them to join the union?”

The scum union leaders understand quite well that the removal of that mandate is the end for them. The rank and file believe their gravy train depends on the leaders. They don’t understand this: There. Is. No. Money.

They lack this understanding as they have never lived in the real world, where you have to actually earn your way.
