NOAA Begins National Survey of the Economic Contributions of Saltwater Angling
NOAA\ U.S. Department of Commerce ^ | February 22, 2011 | Press Release

Posted on 02/28/2011 7:09:09 AM PST by capecodder

"...NOAA and its state partners will ask anglers how long their fishing trips last and how much they spend on bait, boat fuel, ice, charter fees and other expenses. Anglers will also be asked to participate in a follow-up survey that will ask them to estimate what they spend on durable goods such as boats and fishing tackle used for saltwater angling for the previous 12 months. Those who participate in both parts of the survey will help NOAA produce accurate economic information."

Government expands to fill any void in freedom.

True, but this may well be another economic blow to the US. Prior to the destruction of the commercial salmon industry, it supplied the third largest portion of New Money to the US economy (after timber and aircraft manufacturing - both now only a shadow of what they once were thanks to lefty efforts and a sleeping public).

The sport fishing industry may be the one of the greatest sources of disposable income.

The local businesses, surf fishermen, surfers, etc have battled this on the Outer Banks for years now.

“This summer, businesses and fishing alike are suffering thanks to a consent decree accepted by U.S. District Court Judge Terrence W. Boyle April 30, 2008. The history is awfully complicated, and I’ve read reports from various sources for years trying to make sense of what is going on.”

I think the expansion of government control is the greatest risk to freedom, liberty, and our economic system that one can see. It is like some despot took over and is ruling by edict. The irony is when liberty, freedom and our economic system cease to exist, those promoting the outcome of complete government control will be suffering as much as the rest of us except they probably are not smart enough to see it.

Incredible...

I don’t understand how anyone provides anything useful information to gov’t anymore...it is only going to be used against them.

Obama probably just wants to calculate the further job losses when he outlaws fishing...needs time to come up with spin and a new unemployment formula to cover it up!

Dear NOAA,

Go pound SALTWATER! You'll get nothing out of me!!! What I spend on fishing is none of your damned business. It's my time to relax, and you can kiss my bass!
