I have an aunt nearing retirement who works in an urban public school; she has a very low opinion of the union work rules, both in how they arrive at pay levels and how they deal with teachers who are basically “retired on active duty”. She is the first to concede that the pay is far out of sync with the private sector, and while many of our public school teachers send their children to private schools, most average people can’t afford them so they fold anyway. A growing trend is for our public school teachers to obtain “online degrees” which increase their pay enormously (even if the degree from the diploma mill is in a totally unrelated field - one of the work rules the union pushes). Municipalities are catching onto this and exposing the practice; they are basically broke, and can’t afford the enormous costs of the school systems. In NYC the mayor (a liberal extremist) is fighting the use of “last in, first out” when layoffs occur (they, like every other liberal bastion, have run out of money, and will be laying teachers off). He stresses that the system doesn’t necessarily retain the best talent, and punishes younger, sometimes better, teachers. Knowing enough about Mayor-For-Life Bloomberg (he overturned term limit laws so he could have a third term), I suspect he would just prefer to pay the lower salaries associated with newer teachers; in any case, the governor is opposing him and I don’t believe his measure will see the light of day. Most urban sh!tholes simply reach out to their state capitals for the extra funding required, but the state of NY is in no position to provide any more aid; it will be interesting to see how it plays out in NYC (as well as NJ, dealing with similar problems).

Having attended both, I think private schools definitely give a better edge in life; I’m ashamed I can’t afford them for my children.

He has repeated it often enough that someone may have informed him he was misinformed. One of his parodies with the “Justice Brothers” actually has the correct figure of about 73 G at which time the Al Sharpton character is shocked that it is so high. Very funny stuff.
