BOISE -- A resolution supporting repeal of the amendment that gives voters the right to pick U.S. Senators has died in a House committee.

The House State Affairs Committee voted 13-6 to defeat the measure encouraging the repeal of the 17th Amendment in the U.S. Constitution.

The loss is a blow for Mountain Home Rep. Pete Nielsen, who claimed such a step was necessary to get the U.S. Senate more in tune with the needs of states.

But several lawmakers said they were concerned with wording in measure, including a reference calling Congress an "arrogant bureaucracy."

"arrogant bureaucracy."

Ummm. They carry themselves like a nobility, making themselves immune to the laws that they pass and force the rest of us to comply with.

Sounds pretty arrogant to me.

Congress an "arrogant bureaucracy."

That is exactly what it is and this bill was 'killed' to protect and insolate the U.S. Senators from the people so that they, in their higher positions, can keep bringing the replacements coming for years to come.

Legislation should be clean, brief, and to the point, without editorializing.

No matter how true....

Think of it this way: having both the House and Senate elected by majority popular vote is like the government employee unions doing collective bargaining with the government employees.

Except in the case of Congress, both are buying votes from the same crowd with entitlements and pork.

The US Senate behaves like the House of Lords (they act like princes) and often like the Roman Senate (dazzled by their own brilliance). No wonder the Emperor made his horse (or his horse’s ass) a Senator!
