Wisconsin legislature pushing for prank call ban
Laura Donovan - The Daily Caller Tue Mar 1, 3:43 pm ET
A week after Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker received a prank call from blogger Ian Murphy, who posed as conservative billionaire David Koch, two Wisconsin legislators introduced a bill Monday that would ban prank calls, reports the Badger Herald.
Republican state Sen. Mary Lazich and Republican state Rep. Mark Honadel said their measure would forbid deceiving the calls recipient into believing the caller is someone he or she is not.
While use of spoofing is said to have some legitimate uses, it can also be used to frighten, harass and potentially defraud, Lazich and Honadel told the Badger Herald.
The bill wouldnt affect everyone, however. Law enforcement officials who make fake phone calls to fight crime would be exempt from the law.
Among other things, the bills language prohibits callers from purposely giving a false phone number and lying about his or her identity. Honadels spokesperson added that the bill would forbid individuals from disguising their voices.
The proposed law would institute a fine of up to $10,000 for each violation.

So no more “ do you have Prince Albert in a can “ calls?
How about just getting better call screeners?
Hello Guv, is your refrigerator running?
The answer to every problem is more govt and another law..............
Lib loather, thank you for your effort..... sounds good.
Great. One politician gets embarrassed and the rest of them line up to fine every 12-year-old kid $10k for calling around looking for Amanda Hugginkiss. Even our guys can’t act like adults. Shameful.
Oh, goodness, you have got to be kidding me.
This doesn’t help in the current mess there at all.
More government, good grief.
More do as I say, not as I do. No thanks. No more stupid regulations, no more senseless and un-enforceable laws.
Oh good grief. The Governor has a stupid staff member that needs a new set of verification guidelines.
Btw, is your refrigerator running.....
I missed yours. Dang
Do you have Prince Albert in a can?
(Probably won’t do very well given the generations we have now) :^)
Let's introduce a new category of crime: felonious pretending. Yeh, sounds good; that's the ticket...
It is particularly shameful when it is Republicans who have no respect for the limits of government.
Bart Simpson is not going to like this law.
***ring***
Hello Mary? Is your refrigerator running?....
We were rotten kids, but did have fun.
We had a nieghbor named Peter Shaver.
Personally, I think Walker embarrassed himself a bit by going along with the vulgar fake. If people took the high moral road and gently remonstrated others who speak in a vulgar and demeaning fashion, they'd avoid traps like this.
No more Breitbart shenanigans?
I don’t agree. If it were actual fraud there already are laws for that.
The governor needs to adopt better call screening methods.
They typical way is they call back to the number they have on file to the person, and verify they actually called, and then once are verified that way, then the governor gets on the line to the person.
Naturally, politicians would move criminalizing any attempts to get them to expose their true inner selves. Pigs...
