“Currently, the United Nations is drafting an Arms Trade Treaty to impose strict controls on firearms and other weapons,” David B. Kopel, Paul Gallant and Joanne D. Eisen write in a just-released New York University Journal of Law & Liberty Article. From the Abstract:
In support of hasty adoption of the Treaty, a UN-related organization of Treaty supporters have produced a report claiming that armed violence is responsible for 740,000 deaths annually. This Article carefully examines the claim. We find that the claim is based on dubious assumptions, cherry-picked data, and mathematical legerdemain which is inexplicably being withheld from the public. The refusal to disclose the mathematical calculations used to create the 740,000 factoid is itself cause for serious suspicion; our own calculations indicate that the 740,000 figure is far too high.
Further, while the report claims that 60% of homicides are perpetrated with firearms, our review of the data on which the report claimed to rely yields a 22% rate. The persons responsible for the report have refused to release their homicide calculations, or any other calculations.
Globalist gun-grabbers fudge numbers to advance an agenda? And then refuse to share their methodologies and data? This is my shocked face.
“Until the data and calculations are made available to the public, policymakers and concerned global citizens should give no weight to the unsubstantiated factoid of 740,000 deaths,” the authors conclude.

Were it not for the figure 740,000. these sentences could be about the IPCC and AGW.
Them 740K deaths are from a little-known intramural sport called: WAR!!!

Like minefields - where old Soviet mines planted by soviet-led dictators and soviet-sponsored revolutionaries and soviet-trained Muslim radicals WERE planting and leaving behind the abandoned mines - the US mine fields and US mine weapons laid and surveyed (and taken back up when not needed) were only the only ones being protested!
Are the UN writers complaining about AK-47’s sent overseas by the millions in the hands of Muslim radicals? Or US handguns in the hands of private, law-abiding citizens?
If they cannot (or will not) produce the original source data - all the original source data collected; the computations (equations, constants, etc.) performed; reasoning behind including or excluding certain data; and the analysis of results... Then it is not much of a "scientific report" and probably isn't worth the paper it is published on. So-called scientists or researchers that refuse to publish their data and methodology are hiding something - shoddy work, plagiarism, or intentionally misleading work.
Really, we've seen this all before with the global warming nonsense. The left will lie, distort, cheat, steal, anything to advance their agenda. They have no morals, no conscious, and believe the ends justifies the means. That is not only wrong, their "end" is a terrible state of affairs including human oppression and misery.
It is not a new phenomenon - current lies relied on to increase government control:
