The mainstream media has started covering what questioning reporters have characterized as one of the biggest stories in America, Barack Obama's eligibility, with a running dialogue by Chris Mathews on Hardball, CNN polls on the controversy and now an endorsement from the publisher of the Denver Post that the questions are "valid."
However, publisher and owner Dean Singleton told radio talk show host Peter Boyles on his KHOW AM 630 program this week that it's not something he wants to argue about.
The dispute arose even before Obama was elected, when his status as a "natural born Citizen" under the requirements of the U.S. Constitution was questioned. A multitude of lawsuits have sought unsuccessfully to clear the air, and there are several court cases that continue.
States have reacted by proposing legislation that would require a presidential candidate to provide documentation of his constitutional eligibility, and that same plan even has been proposed in Congress.
Throughout, Obama has maintained a team of lawyers assigned to stamp out any case or challenge through which some of the documentation about his career might be revealed to public eyes.

Today the SCOTUS was to confer on the Hollister rehearing/petition. I don’t know what other viable cases are still pending. Seems they’ve about run their course, so this might be the last shot.
They all dismiss it - Huck, Hewitt, Ingraham, Beck, etc.
Obviously, the publisher is an Obama guy, like Matthews, who has a few questions, but he used the typical spin about there not being proof he isn’t a citizen. That is not the question. The question is: Is he a “Natural Born citizen.”
Whatever happened to all these libs being into nuance?

But by never asking the real question libs media and even many Pubs can bluff through with the line that anyone who thinks 0dumbo is not a citizen is a loon.

The courts are not the only entities empowered to deal with such a question. A committee of the House of Representatives could be authorized to conduct an investigation into the eligibility issue. The classic formulation of the Congressional role is Woodrow Wilson's, in his 1884 book Congressional Government:

And that’s not even counting the dozens of others he and his wife have...
I just posted on my blog a 10-page booklet that goes over the most basic stuff regarding state eligibility bills and why they are needed. I can’t really post it here because it’s a PDF, but it’s intended to help people explain to their legislators how we know the current system is badly broken and needs repair quickly. People can copy the file either electronically or in print and attach it in an e-mail to their legislator or others, or can just give a link. It’s most effective on the computer because there are clickable links to document just about everything.

There is one thing at which Obama has been mightily successful: driving a wedge between the so-called conservative leaders and their followers.
A significant portion of the population has serious questions about his eligibility. As the major leaders in the GOP and the conservative media IGNORE this issue, a fair number of conservatives are FURIOUS with them. Wow! What an effective way to split the conservative movement.
As for people like Ann Coulter, she will NEVER NEVER NEVER get a dime from me again! Not that she cares,...but...drip drip drip, Obama's eligibility could sink her career. The Marxists would be thrilled about that.
There have been times when I couldn't stand to hear Rush's phony voice because of what he DELIBERATELY refused to report. Now I get my news nearly entirely from Free Republic. The only time I listen to Rush is if I am sewing or painting a room.

I have written to all my representatives on every level several times. Only one federal Senator, a Republican, has responded, and his letter was nothing but DNC and DOJ talking points.
I am DISGUSTED!
I read Prof Rice’s essay the other day, and it does bring ‘outside the box’ thought to this ongoing debate. If only there were enough members of the House with the courage to suggest, much less undertake, such an investigation.
Granted that my knowledge is limited, the one problem I see is that, while Congress can and should investigate, they can’t interpret the language of the Constitution. They can’t interpret the phrase “Natural Born citizen” as understood and intended by the Framers That interpretation is, as I understand it, reserved to the Supreme Court.
So, let’s say (fantasize) that Congress conducted an investigation, and Obama turned over his long form birth certificate. Let’s say it proved that he was born in HI on Aug. 4, 1961, and that BHO, Sr. was his father. That would show only that he was a US citizen at birth. It would not address whether, because his father was not then nor ever a U.S. citizen, that made him a “Natural Born citizen,”
What’s interesting is that Obama served in the Senate at the time that body investigated the ‘natural born’ status of McCain, but never requested, and no one else suggested so far as I know, that a similar investigation for him.

Yeah. But they don’t mean it. If you have ever taught a class, you will know that you get mind-numbingly, crashingly stupid questions.
There are stupid questions. For example: “Don’t you know the science is settled? What is wrong with you?”
I feel the same way about the whole lot of them, and the worst is Mark Levin, a constitutional lawer!
