An ABC News reporter is badly beaten in Bahrain

In another instance of what some Western reporters face while reporting on the spreading protests in the Middle East, ABC Radio News reporter Miguel Marquez was attacked during a protest in the capital city of Bahrain, while he was on the air.

During a chilling report, Marquez reports that government police began firing teargas at the few thousand people that had gathered in Manama's Pearl Square. At one point, you can hear Marquez getting hit by someone, and he yells "journalist, journalist" in an effort to identify himself. He repeats "journalist, journalist" several more times while unidentified people speaking in Arabic are heard continually hitting Marquez. For the next 70 seconds, with his recorder still capturing every harrowing sound, you can hear a beaten Marquez saying "I'm going" over a dozen times to let his attackers know he is leaving. He then says after he gets away and while out of breath, "I just got beat - rather badly - by a gang of thugs. These guys are not screwing around." You can listen to the very disturbing report by Marquez here.

The attack on Marquez comes after CBS News reporter Lara Logan was beaten and sexually assaulted by a gang in Egypt, in Cairo's Tahrir Square. Logan, being treated back in the States, received a call from President Obama.

Standing around in the midst of a war is about as intelligent as standing outside in a tornado.

“Don’t you know who I AM?”

This is a good education for these media elites.

"What do they mean “back in the states?” Logan is not an American - she is South African."

She works for CBS and she lives in Washington DC with her American husband and children.

Was Marquez in the middle of a Tea Party Rally?

I didn't think so.

Funny how those pampered leftists think about their jobs in the USA
and how they somehow think the rest of the world surrounds them.

Dumb Ass...

The following is a very good article by a child psychologist in Denmark who has intensely studied Muslim criminals. It answers a lot of questions and yes, Islam appears to be the root of this evil.

A Muslim Upbringing and Terrorism

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2684169/posts

“...Western children are brought up to think that anger is a negative thing and that showing anger is embarrassing...It is a sign of lack of control, joy and ability to do what one wants...Muslim children on the contrary are to a high degree taught that anger and aggression is a socially acceptable tool for handling conflicts and expressing frustration. These clinical observations are supported by a major study done by the German University of Lower Saxony involving intense interviews with 45,000 children between 14 and 16 years of age.”

“Shouting “journalist” even in English was just target confirmation”

But only if the crowd understood what the hell he was saying.

Wikipedia reacts very fast to update an article in some cases. I have seen updates within hours of events happening.

Being a pervert in a Muslim country is living dangerously!! No sympathies here.

The MSM has a false sence of security and detatchment from reality. They think that by saying “journalist” they will be safe but in reality it’s like telling somebody that a lying backstabbing liberal scumbag is in their prescence which is why he was attacked.

The word “journalist” is universally known and holding a microphone confirms that. The mob also took a second look, recognized his femininity and moved in for the kill.

Not sure why there are Freepers here dis-ing the guy.

'Cause people here are used to taking sides and doing so wholesale. The guy belongs to the media, so he deserved to die --- facts and principles be d-mned.

Thank you for bringing sanity and moral clarity to this thread.

He didn’t die. Nobody said he deserved to die. But a good ass-kicking may not have been such a bad thing. I’m sorry he belongs to the media, and that people from the media tend to skew their reporting so much. If all people were smart and could see right through the bias, we wouldn’t be in the middle of the worst economic conditions in half a century, while being told by the media that times are good and getting better. Ironically, just five years ago, times were good while the media was telling us we were in the worst economic shape in half a century. The media told us how bad it was for us to depose a dictator in Iraq, but all of a sudden they want us to go into Libya and depose a dictator. I have to ask, WTF? So maybe the ass kicking can help to reverse the bias.

the real reasons

Absolutely-— but so much of the time any more so many people just react without seeming to think. It does not contribute anything- sometimes it is clear the poster did not read the article involved as they contradict what the article states.

That is my point.

I completely agree with what you say about the bias in the lib-dominated media. So maybe the ass kicking can help to reverse the bias.

It's a valid question and reasonable hope. I personally have not seen the loons change their minds because of one such incident: it's easy to explain it away as some isolated misfortune. You and I see things for what they are: while living in some la-la-land, this reporter experienced a painful encounter with the real world. You hope that encounter will open his eyes. I personally don't hold my breath but still feel no joy in him being physically abused.

Needless to say, I hope you are right and I am wrong. It would be nice if at least one these loons could wake up and see the world for what it is.

Agreement.

I do not know how the journo got a beating. The Shia Bahraini, who are the ones protesting, are pretty soft, as are the interior troops and cops, who are meant to be fighting with them. In Bahrain, you only need half the security staff to run a big event like a rock concert, because the people are basically soft, gentle. They would make useless soccer hooligans.

People do not often get hurt during protest/”rioting”. Most “riots” I could have chased off with my fists.

The situation in Bahrain is dissimilar to the other situations across North Africa. The head of the Gulf is the Shia region, which Iran sees as its sphere. The Shia are ruled by the Sunni, just like it used to be in Iraq. They are not pleased about this and the educated middle class ones are upset that they cannot gain upward mobility. That is a justifiable grievance but underwriting Shia unrest in the region is Iran. They already picked up some Gulf islands in 1971 when the British pulled out.

If Malawi is “Africa for beginners” then Bahrain is “the Middle East for beginners”. It’s soft and pleasant, especially compared to the other hellholes. It does not need a revolution, especially one underwritten by Iran. It does need a bit of gentle evolution, which is likely what will happen now.
