Did anyone on FR actually support McLame?
Palin was the only reason that I recall people on FR being excited about voting GOP. Juan McLame was and is a disgusting excuse for a ‘conservative’, and I’m still mad at Palin for endorsing him in the AZ primary. Sarah may never live that one down, IMO.
Yes. Many supported him with vigor. At one point, I thought that if I read things like "Go Johnny Mac" one more time, I was going to throw my computer through the wall.
McCain has a long, lousy record of cuddling up to Democrats, a checkered family life, and made gaff after gaff on the election trail. I don't know if he didn't want to win, or what, but a month out from the election, there were McCain campaign headquarters throughout the state which were unmanned most of the time.
I think the last straw (for me) was when he announced he was suspending his campaign to rush back to Washington to work on the bail-out. His "rush" took a couple of days and included spending a night in NYC partying with Bill Clinton and Bono.
Too many seemed willing to overlook McCain's erratic, increasingly bizarre behaviour.
Many argued vociferously in favor of supporting McCain at all costs, even before he picked Palin. If you didn't commit to supporting him, you were going to be personally responsible for putting Obama in office.
They also promised and swore that as soon as the election was over, they'd work tirelessly to ensure that in 2012, the primaries would be closed and that the "You're Next" policy of crowning the next candidate in line. If only we'd vote for McCain!
Well, it's 2011, the primaries are still open, and the next candidate is shaping up to be Mitt Romney, 'cause he's next.
I did not vote for McCain (wrote in a vote for one of the Founding Fathers). I owe my allegiance to God first and could not vote for someone with McCain's personal history and politics.

It is to Sarah Palin's credit that the McCain/Palin ticket got as many votes as it did. That said, I don't understand why she supported McCain in Arizona. Yes, she ran with him, but at some point, the welfare of Arizona citizens needed to come first above party loyalty. I don't want to vote for someone who engages in "payback politics" & would have preferred it if she'd have refused to endorse anyone at all.
