Proclaiming "Today I am a Muslim too," about 1,000 protesters gathered Sunday in Times Square to decry Rep. Pete King's upcoming hearings into homegrown radical Islam.
"Today, they're targeting Muslims. Tomorrow, it will be Jews. Tomorrow, they'll close a synagogue," said Abu Abdullah, 57, a perfumer from Bay Shore, L.I., who stood in the rain at the interfaith rally.
"Peter King is trying to divide us - to make it like shark eat shark," he said of the Long Island Republican, who heads the House Homeland Security Committee. "It shouldn't be that way."
Christians, Jews and Muslims branded the hearings a witch hunt, waved signs and chanted, "Shame, shame Pete King!"
Celebrities from boxing legend Mike Tyson to reality show darling Kim Kardashian added their support online.
"We are bigger than Charlie Sheen - we are the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter," hip-hop icon Russell Simmons told the rain-drenched crowd.
Magdy Salama, 50, a limo company owner from Astoria, Queens, who held a small American flag on a stick, said he worried his three Muslim kids will grow up facing religious bigotry.
"We're a free country. There should be freedom of religion," Salama said.
In an interview with the Daily News, King denied he was on a witch hunt and cited recent homegrown plots to bomb the subways and Times Square, saying the threat of terrorism "is now more from within" than from abroad.
In defending the hearings, which kick off Thursday, he said targeting one community has plenty of precedent.
Jihadists are "being recruited from within the Muslim community, just like the Mafia came from the Italian community, the Westies came from the Irish community," King said.
"It's important we find out the extent to which they are being radicalized, and how it's being done."

The thing about witch hunts that goes largely overlooked......is that sometimes there are witches.
The sad part is that King wimped out on getting real witnesses that know just how evil Islam is. He has already caved in to CAIR. I have had problems with King going back to his pro Clinton vote during impeachment.
The time has come to the forefront regarding Muslim issues. American may just well be pulled into a Sunni and Shia problem. The minority Shia’s desire to tell the majority Sunni that their beleifs in the 12th Imam will come to fruition if they creats chaos and conflict throughout all of the world.
15% of all muslims are Shia 85% are Sunni. Iran has the largest population of Shia Muslims with the Shia pilgrimage site primarily being Fallujah.
Sunni pilgrimage sites being Medina and Mecca in Saudi Arabia, but there is one more Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.
What is happening in the Middle east has the footprint of Iran’s President Mahmud Ahmadinejad restablishing his connections with disatisfied Shia muslims and fundamentalist Sunni sects.
Keep in mind Shia Muslims are split into 12 sects actually 13 but some shia’s do not recognize the 13th. Sunni muslims are split is sects too. Example the Wahabi sect is the same one that the Royal Family of saudi Arabia belongs too. A bit of information Obama’s father belonged to the same sect in Kenya. So I believe Obama was truly raised a Wahabi Muslim till the time he returned to Hawaii. The media has distorted that his true father left Islam, but what do they know about his stepfather Soetoro whom legally adopted him.
That's the reason the more extreme elements of that crowd need to be examined carefully in public.

It is like “If you accuse us of being radical; we will blow up and burn down everything the U.S.A. is for!”
These people hate everything about:
“In God We Trust” and “One Nation Under God.” And they have a special hate for: “A government of the people, for the people and of the people.”
They should go pray to Allah at their 911 victory Mosque. Poor victims.
It’s not a witch hunt. It’s a Muslim hunt. It’s high time we started playing “Cowboys and Muslims’’.

Some of these people keep harping about freedom of religion. How about asking them to swear to the oath of allegience for our Constitution and openly denounce the political laws of Sharia.
